ManoliSlippery, thanks but Ill have fished my match by then, so if you like Ill post how I get on…
I had a look on the wesbite Pete but couldnt find any info on the most recently successful baits/methods. But found out alot about the lakes, most have an Island to fish to and they arnt to deep, so Ive got that info sorted, now just need to know how big the target fish are and what baits to use?
Thanks again.

AlexParticipantMust be saturday dont think there is an open on sunday. That means it will be on wood lake. I won there last saturday on my first visit for a while with 174lb, i had about 110lb up in the water and the rest on a top 4 beside my keepnet.
if the weather is warm, fish it at various depths but about 12″ is a good starting point. fish a 6mm pellet and feed the same. As far as feeding, feed a little pellet to get the fish in the area and work your rig, standard shallow fishing really. You need to get into a rhythm as the fish are about 1-2.5lb average and it can take a lot of fish to do a weight. The other thing to do is fish a top 4 look for about 4-5ft of water (go at a slight angle if necessary) fish this with whatever bait you prefer really, pellet, meat, corn etc this line is good for the last couple of hours dont put big pots of bait in though! that will ruin your peg, all bait should be loosefed. Also the fish tend to be bigger on this line but you get some skimmers and chub thrown in which soon add 10-20lb to your weight.
Fish probably 0.16 to black hydro/12 latex or simialr.

AlexParticipantoh dont bother with a track line as its too deep IMO at 6ft 6. Keep things simple and target 100-120lb which over six hours is only 20lb an hour.

ManoliCheers Alex, How far out did you fish shallow that day? And how much was you feeding on the closer line?
-
18/09/2007 at 4:29 pm #64514
AlexParticipantI fished 14.5m some of the pegs are wider than others so 13m might be ok if the island is only 14m. I did 160lb for 3rd on pathfield lake on thursday on the same tactics also.
I feed the closer line with about 6 grains of corn every 2 minutes, or after every missed bite and hooked fish.
Would have seen you there this week but im fishing team matches at bough beech on saturday and puddledock on sunday.

ManoliOk mate, so your fising shallow fairly near Island then?
Also what size are the fish in Pathfield Lake?
-
18/09/2007 at 8:12 pm #64516
AlexParticipantyeah i like to go close to the island. Pathfield fish are bigger average 2-6lb but the island fish are on the smaller end of the scale.

See you saturday may be and we will have a chat about the 6metre line, something Steve and Phil Ringer put us onto. -
20/09/2007 at 7:40 pm #64520

mullarkeyChris,
make sure you take some catmeat otherwise you might as well just go straight round Lenny`s house and give him your £22.
-
21/09/2007 at 8:54 am #64523
ManoliJob done Chris, he left a message this morning.
Mullarkey I think we all need to come up with a plan to beat Lenny some how LOL
-
21/09/2007 at 8:29 pm #64524
AlexParticipantsteve ringers 6m attack is good but imo not cold enough for it yet. Have caught plenty on it around november though. Gary dont worry about lenny i battered him off the next peg when i had 160lb he “only” had 100lb!
-
24/09/2007 at 11:46 am #64525
ManoliOh well first visit wasn’t a total disaster. I came 7th I think with 66lb from peg 40… I made a few mistakes (trying my unproductive margin line for too long was the biggest) But in the last hour I was getting one a chuck which made for some great fishing IMO.
Im booked on for next week, but may be up north with the team so might not be there. But Im looking forward to going back.
Well done to Chris aswell, he came second I think with 104lb?

TF_folk in hailwhat’s the ringer 6m attack then?
-
29/09/2007 at 5:59 pm #64527
TF_CHRIS.V.ParticipantWell done Gary on your win today at Colmans. 132lb of carp caught shallow.
Good info given by Alex. -
29/09/2007 at 8:33 pm #64528
ManoliCheers Chris, and you too Alex.
Bloody Solid that peg 28! haha
Cant wait for me next trip, I carried on fishing for another 30 mins with abit of tuition from Dave Vincent, learnt a few new tricks for next time.
-
30/09/2007 at 8:50 pm #64529
AlexParticipantnice one, might be there on saturday, dont think we will get much more shallow fishing this year though.
-
30/09/2007 at 9:08 pm #64530
TF_red_hydroWell done Gary, excellent result even better considering they are decent anglers you are fishing against
-
01/10/2007 at 7:56 am #64531
ManoliIts a shame the weathers turning shyte now. I learnt a very useful new trick to help me keep catching when my shallow line goes abit quiet, something thats not seen all to often… Looks like ill have to wait until next year?
-
03/10/2007 at 6:38 pm #64532
ManoliChris that thing that Dave told me that we spoke about earlier, your also netting the barbel on a top 4, so getting the barbel very quickly, IMO its well worth a proper go next time im there… should work a treat 🙂
