TF_carpmagicParticipantIf you have a problem why dont you contact angling times? No point moaning about it on here!

TF_rocketFeederI’ve had queries in the past, a simple phone call to Richard Lee (might of been Richard Grange??) and it was resolved. Give them a ring.

TF_DodgeI am something like 50 points missing ! I emailed Richard Grange at the start of the county points champs as i had some points missing and he was very hellpful as was AT in general. With the amount of anglers and points to chase up it must have been a logistical nightmare ……. surely now time has come for both Angling Times and Anglers Mail to work together with ALL RESULTS as some match organsisers favour one or the other paper when reporting results ? An 80 plus big team match with sponsored anglers galore cant get a mention but a 15 peg knock up in farmers field can ….. this just cant be right for both match anglers and the angling industry surely.

TF_carpmagicParticipantDodge, its up to the organisers or us the anglers to make sure the results go in. The problem is as you say a lot only send to one mag and not both. This isnt either papers fault though but needs more proactive people either running or fishing the matches. If they dont get sent in the mags cant be blamed when points arent issued. Since the county champs has started i have took a lot more notice when i have framed in trying to make sure the result goes in. A couple of times i have actually had to take down the result myself and then send it in with the organisers contact number for confirmation. As i said the answer is to do as i have been doing and pester the organisers to get the results in, i even keep the relevant number for match results in my phone now so as to pass it on if needed.

TF_DodgeI have done that myself steve but chasing results is a pain , as i stated in my post AT were very helpfull when i chased one particular result up and i thank them for that. The point i am making though is surely with both weeklies the result reporting system is antiquated ? all the modern technology we have now surely this could be addressed thus giving match angling and the angling industry a boost ?

TF_carpmagicParticipantTrue its a pain but if the organiser isnt fussed about putting the result in what else can you do? Even if the system changed you still need someone to input the result and that is the main problem at the moment.

TF_mickeymI agree i think its a great thing there doing. once the comps over and the top 20 in each county are selected what happens then?
Does the top 20 fish againest another top 20 in a 40 pegger somewhere?
-
04/08/2010 at 4:46 pm #112508
TF_carpmagicParticipantMickey, why dont you buy the paper? When the top 20 is done they then fish off and the top 5 form the team. They then go forward to the grand final.

TF_mickeymSteve,
I buy it every week, mainly for your articles and match results. I must have missed the bit that explains how it works thats all.

TF_Waveney OneThe whole thing is a logistics nightmare.
Firstly the deadline for getting results in for publication of the mags the next Tuesday is on a Sunday evening. That is reasonable for the reporting side of things IF you have a Tuesday publication but publishing on a Wednesday would make more sense.
Believe it or not match organisers are knackered on a Sunday evening they also have families that haven’t seen them all day so they don’t need the hassle of ringing and finding the numbers engaged etc. as happens.
Even if they don’t have a life except for fishing and manage to get the results through by the 7pm Sunday deadline, it is then down to the editors to decide which results go in. Now you and I may agree that 60 peg league match should be printed but if you were the editor and the winning weight was 3lb 2oz and 8th place was 1lb 0oz would you put that in or the 250lb from Joe Bloggs potato patch? The editor has that judgement to make.
So what happens is the 250lb goes in even if only 25 people fished.
The next league match, poor old match organiser gets another 8 blokes giving him ear ache – not even about the pegging or whatever on this match but the fact that their name didn’t get into the paper last week even though he did ring it through. The decision is entirely out of their hands. As if they didn’t have enough hassle to put up with! I know I have been there.
Of course it was a great idea by the AT but if you think we and the match organisers are having a hard time think about the poor person who has to collate all the scores. I wouldn’t want that job for 100K a year!
My solution : – Move publication back to Wednesdays and get all match organisers or an assistant to email the results in to the publications by Monday lunchtime. That way, peoples weights or names are not misheard or mistyped, the county is accurate and the sponsors details are correct as well.

TF_Nigel.Your dead right there about getting someone else to do it!
I run a few big matches a year, usually around 10, all over 80 pegs.
I only send the results in if asked to do so, like the Maver pars last week were they need the reults, or the UK Champs. But other matches like the Barston Bowl (110 pegs) or Midland angler of the year, often done even get a mention, so i dont allways bother sending them in.(it depends how much i have had to drink and relax after the match, lol)
As said, often 20 peggers get a big write up, and often there may have only been 15 on it anyway!
I do thing the bigger matches should have priority, but thats not my choice. If it were, i would send them in to the press! The county champs is certanly a big job, and they are doing a graet job of it. The Quilifiers are being organised right now for the weekend of the 18th and 19th of Semtember, (i think) and the final is in October here.

TF_Serious SamWhy not create a web site where the results can be entered ? Only need a ew simple forms to collect the data.
