Sounds good but it’s a lot of money for a pole that you have use the dolly section to get it back to the stated length.

. You have to use dolly butts with all decent Diawas to gain the required length, the oberall length can be misconstrued by others though

I had the privilege of using a daiwa air last week on 1 of the fishing lessons I do [jigging slapping shallow fishing) must say I was very impressed, have had an airity + still prefer the old tourney pro to this pole but basically this is personell preference . JIGGA LESSONS available at a cost of £100 and i can personally guarantee, you 100lb of f1s or proper carp on your 1st lesson,1 to 1 tuition, 2 to 1 tuition £150 , please phone me for more details 07961619692, keepnets allowed on all venues where I do the lessons,THE AIR IS AWSOME BUT I CANT JUSTIFY THE PRICE, regards ian Heywood.

Ian can I ask a question about jigging I like the concept and I’ve tried it with varying sucesss but primarily I fish a tough venue with average 3hr match weights being around 20lb ( 6 carp) do you think jigging is only for bagging venues like bank end etc or would it sort a match out on harder venues, also when are you doing a mag feature about this method ? Regards Anthony

with poles around the £1000 – £1500 mark being at the high quality and standards they are I couldnt even consider spending that amount on a pole. However if you were a full time angler or fishing 2 to 3 matches a week then it may be different and the ‘Air’ would be the pole to have! 🙂

ant, my personel view from fishing this method over the past 5years is you can win any match on any venue where f1s + carp are concerned , regardless of weights required, (bagging or low weights) if your only looking for 20lb in a 3hr match not exactly bagging are we, so we have to look at stocking levels,or have the fish wised up, how deep is the venue, weather to feed? jig? or slap id do all 3 personally til I found where they want to feed. or in this instance if they want any feed, give us a ring sometime (daytime ) + will put you right the best I can on this method, hopefully feature at end of this month, regards ian Heywood.

Ian thanks for the response, no its not a bagging venue I fish I have the 3hr match record with 49lb, I prefer venues with modest winning weights and from my understanding of this method its better suited to bagging up venues, can I ask one more question do you fish your float overshotted and hold everything tight your pole tip as I’ve been doing ? Regards anthony

ant, how possibly can the rig be overshotted, the float has a hollow centre, unless the float stop or shot you use on your rigs hits the float its not overshotted( (it my pay you to have a lesson on this method !!!!)

I’m refering to once you hit your top stopshot is your bulk significant enough to sink your float or will your float stay suspended I’ve tried both ways ? Regards Anthony

Isn’t this just the ‘Mong’ rig that people in the Northwest of England have been fishing for years??

Hi Ant, I overshot my jigga rig (one of Ian’s floats), takes about 2 No8 shot. I put on 4 – 6 depending on wind etc. and allow the float to sink on occasion.

With the Jigga, you can slap or let the line fall through the float. Last week (and the week before) I was holding a tight line to come 2nd with 92lb and 3rd with 163lb.

I used the rig on an evening match the other night on a tough venue and I won it with 31lb in 3 hours. Half on jigga and half on method. Not an F1 in sight.

                                    Hope that helps.

                                    Mike

Getting back to the Daiwa Air a few of my mates went to fosters to have a look at the air airity and map 801 there opinion was that the air like the airity despite the extra grand and supposed increase in stiffness still had the age old problem with diawa poles and that is that the do bounce a bit when shipping out, not great when kinder cupping! the cupping kit is also next to useless bending alarming
One of the lads was so impressed with the map 801 that he has now gone out and bought one, he said it felt phenomenal stiff with no tip bounce a far better recovery than the daiwa poles and knock the spots off of both the air and the airity, in actual fact he went out and bought one within the space of a couple of days, I did ask him why? the reason he has just bought a z12 a couple of weeks prior to the map 801 his reply was it was such a bargain he had to get one, The next question I asked was which was better the z12 or the map he said he has not yet had them up side by side and has only used the z12 once so far.
However the map was a heavier pole however it also felt better balanced than the Daiwa’s which also really suffered when a power kit was put onto the pole!!!!!!!
Having said all that you do see more daiwa poles on the bank for that there has to be a reason, I also use an old top of the range daiwa pole which is in fine nick and still going strong, however I do look at some of these new poles with envy as their stiffness is superb.

Thanks that how I’ve been fishing the floats I make because my floats only take a couple of small shot, I’ve been asked to make some floats which will take a 5 no 8 bulk but they stick out of the water like a sore finger !

Fred.i have just bought an air a few weeks ago. Sold an garbo M1.before that in order i had goin backwards. Gmax1000, trilogy.tourney pro and g995.all good poles. I compared the air at 16m with the 801,airity.new tricast..z12 and of course M1. The air is honestly in a different league at long lengths.the M1 was stiff but this is stiffer and better balanced. Ive used it 6 times and its as good as garbo or or better in tip bounce dept. Ie none at all. I also bought a pro ext and at 17 m you can very easily slap with it. Also dont get and dont need short 4s to stiffen .the 801 was good and if price is your main criteria yes its a better deal but NOT a better performing pole IMO.

Thanks Mart it’s good to get contrasting opinions on poles as unfortunately a lot of tackle shops including the biggies around our way just don’t have a pole alley anymore, although we get to see them on the bank it’s still hard to judge. However your well pleased with the air and a lot of lads have said it is very well balanced and a lot easier to handle but then you do pay the price the best never comes cheap. The main question is I suppose is it worth the extra Wonga. A bit like asking how long is a piece of string lol

yes your right Fred… before i bought it, had had several half hearted changes of mind where my financial head kept saying i must be daft but my heart said if i didnt i’d regret it in a years time… i’m not rich by any means but with selling the M1 and a bit of saving i could afford it. i als did not pay the the price which is listed everywhere. like i said the 801 is a fantastic pole but so are all top of the range poles.
wot i will also say is the air sections felt a lot stronger than the airity sections . and the 801 sections come to that, an that was a major factor for me. 😉
