I own an original Daia Spectron Competition and am considering upgrading to the new model. A couple of questions for anyone that has used this in anger or knows more about it:-
        1. Are the top kits backwards compatible with the old model
        2. have daiwa improved the finish, particularly for when shipping in the wet, which was my biggest critiscm of the original

        Any help appreciated

        Thanks

        Andy

I have a feeling that the new one is off the same mandrel as the Tournament, so the sections will not interchange with your original model.

kingman i was talking to a diawa sponsored angler the other day who had been testing all the new poles for diawa and he was raving about the new speccy m2 and how unbelievably light the new m2 was

I tried the M2 sections 5,6,7 in the exceller (off same mandrel as Spec comp) and they fitted ok, so I believe the M2 will fit the spec comp. The top kits def fit both poles.
The finish did not seem any different than the comp.
I have a speci comp and I am probably thinking in the same way as yourself, it probaly worth ringing Diawa and double checking with their techi dept to confirm they are both compatable, ie off the same manderal.
              Hope all this helps.

                Cheers Colin.
I was told by fosters of Brum that new Speccy M2 is off the Tourney Pro mandrel, so sections wont be interchangeable with the old Speccy comp. but top kits should be OK. Speccy Power sections should I believe be alright as this was also Tourney Pro mandrel based.

Torn now between Speccy and Drennan Zircon (see my other thread). Just a shame I cant find anywhere to handle both together.

The finish might just sway it, it sounds like the Zircons “shipping when wet” performance is excellent.

Great review of Zircon in this moths APF although thgese reviews always tend to be a bit sycophantic(did I spell that right!)

If your as happy with your speci comp as I am with mine then the M2 must be high on the new pole wish list. Its obviously a true match pole coming with no power tops, rated to 12 elastics and slightly lighter than the competion.
The only place in my area I have seen one is at the Leigh Tackle & Bait shop.Steve the owner had handled the new Tourney areo just before the M2 and could not believe how much lighter the M2 was. But I suppose it all depends on what type of use you require it for, I am mainly canal and never do commercials so The comp & M2 are perfect for me.
Good luck with what ever you buy.

The M2 is NOT off the pro mandrel as I understand it.

At least, the prototype which the pole is based upon which was unveiled in the trade last year was different.

Not sure which profile the pole is based upon, but I believe it is the same back as far as the number five, but may well be wrong.

What I know though, it that it is fantastic. Awesome. Brilliant.

No good any heavier than black hydro though….

for what my opinion is worth i was listening to a few people having a waggle with one the other day and to say they would have put me off would be an understatement.
