Daiwa Spectron M2 – Spares Package

I think Daiwa have commited a major marketing boob here.

Silver fish pole up to number 12 elastic – fair enough, but no spare number 4’s thats poor.

The parallel number 4’s are NOT number 4’s they are designed to fit between the 4 and the 5 section to extend the pole length. In my view this is more relevant on a carp pole.

I fish deep stillwaters and rivers, how am i going to manage with the current spares package.

Also the number 4 section on daiwa poles is the most common weak point, to only get one is asking for trouble.

To be honest its enough of a problem to stop me buying one – looks like a GIS 12 now.

What does everybody else think?

Possibly, but the package is reasonably priced, how much are the spare fourths?

Not sure it is reasonably priced. when compared with competitive top of the range offerings there are less top kits and no no. 4 sections.

We also need to bear in mind that Daiwa top kits are the least sophisticated on the market, no tip saving system, no magic steps etc, so they always require maximum cutting back which always loses you length. This is important when fishing deep venues.

I can’t imagine you would lose much length if you are only going to use light elastics would you? Also From what I can gather Daiwa are always very, very competitive when it comes to spare sections. The price on some of the spare sections on the continental poles are frightening. The daiwa is also reported to be a dream to use. I suppose if you are going to spend that sort of money it is advisable to go through all of your options very carefully because I would imagine all poles have their positives & negatives.

Cheers baitchief, all advice is appreciated. its like buying a new car, so much choice, does your heart rule your head etc.
I am a fan of daiwa poles I currently own a Spectron and before that a 412. For me a package including two spare top 4’s would have been a no brainer. I would already be the proud owner of an M2. The decision has just become that much harder given daiwas marketing policy. In this months APF they describe Daiwas decision on the parallel top 4’s as “interesting”. For a publication whos reviews are always positive no matter what they are reviewing, thats as close as you can get to “poor”

I use the daiwa generic top kits, and they are of equal quality to the proper kits and usually half the price.
You can get generic number 4’s also i think for a reasonable price!!

Why didn’t you go for the Zircon ? It has loads of spares and the long kits you need.

Still undecided. The Spectron M2 was in pole postion because I already have a Spectron comp. so I can use all my top kits.
Otherwise its Zircon, or Garbo G10 or Preston GIS12
Its so bloody hard to decide because I live in a bit of a backwater for getting your hands on any of them.

Would have thought the parallel tops more relevant to a silvers pole, as extending the the pole with a thinner light not so strong bit seems better than extending it with a thicker stronger heavy bit

buy a G10 u know it makes sense, just about all our lads have been converted to em. i used to have daiwas and had a pro before this and there is no comparison to be honest. strong as an ox and im sure they incorporated viagra into the carbon!!!!

The only thing putting me off a G10 Garbo is the comments on here re: the fact that it is heavy. My Spectron competition is a really light pole (lighter than the Pro). I am worried the G10 will feel noticeably heavier. thoughts?

well put it this way im not the biggest of lads and ive been fishing it to the far bank of the stainy most weeks 17.5m+, it is heavier than most poles but id rather it be heavy and not let me down than being light and breaking every outing. its also very good in the wind, just stays still until you give in and have to let go!¬!!
