AnonymousJust wondering how everyone else approaches matches…are you a match angler that gets all your plans ready during the week and make up your mind that youre going to attack it with the certain baits before the weekend arrives, or do you turn up,see where you draw, then sort your methods and baits out ???
Me, ive sorted it out all week and perfected it before ive even got to wednesday haha -

TF_paulnewellYou can plan all week and sometimes get it spot on . Ready made rod and reel set ups , are helpfull just in case . We should all have a good selection of hooks tied up . The ability to quickly change should plan A not work .For those that can afford to some different baits should it be needed .
The addition of worm just in case can be a costly burden .Red worms on the other hand only require legwork . On commercials especially F1s I used to think anyone with more than two baits on his tray couldn’t win ??? -

TF_missabiteGenerally I wake up and then decide where to go. That’s the problem, a good problem, living in Brum – there are lots of match venues within a shortish drive.
I then get to my peg and get some pellets out.

AnonymousMy planning is based on the target weights im going to need to normally win, target fish and the size of the fish expected to win. That gives me the basics of a plan.
Bait needs to be thought about. Amount likely to be needed and types of bait I fancy using. Im not someone who follows the IN methods and baits but I do tend to follow some basic ideas on what I will need to do to win on most venues. I always have plenty of pellets of various sizes plus crushed pelets for paste in my bag, plenty of corn, meat and hemp. Some bread if allowed, plus a few sight baits just in case! Not much planning needed on most venues as the baits I carry are good enough to sort out most venues and situations.
I carry loads of rigs, hooks and rods that are ready to use. So, the rest is down to where I draw and how I feel once im sat at my peg.
Usually takes a few minutes to decide to A) feed the margins. B) Feed a 2+2 line and C) either fish a longer pole line, chuck a bomb/waggler/feeder. I expect to empty the venue on plan A and B as soon as possible at this time of the year.
Its not always as simple as that but by testing swims with feeding patterns it soon sorts itself out if the fish are in my peg.
