fisherman philParticipantI know theres been a thread about these before but im trying to find out just how many people have had problems with the pouch splitting as i have been on the phone to Drennan today and they say that it shouldn,t be happening….. Im told this is the first complaint about this happening so i just need a few numbers so i can get back to them

TF_spotter1707I have three different models; the red, the green & orange. No problems with any pouches but all elastics have needed replacement & tangles a plenty!!

TF_fadd1stThink the most common problem is how easily a tangle free pult tangles. Together with the exceptionally poor elastic quality. Very unlike a Drennan product. Elastic seldom lasts a session.

TF_rb211AS WHAT EVERY ONE ELSE HAS SAID ELASTIC DONT LAST LONG AND HAS FOR THE TANGLE FREE I DONT THINK SO .SO DISAPOINTED WITH THEM I GAVE MINE AWAY NOT A PATCH ON THE OLD DRENNEN CATAPULTS

TF_fishphoneAbsolute waste of £8. Elastic has snapped already and as for tangle free absolute crap. Avoid, really poor for Drennan.

TF_iansi01354In all honesty I do not believe the elastic is as good, I replaced mine 2nd time out which is un heard of for me. That said since replacing it the signs of wear around the connection point are better than the original……pity I have needed to use Matrix elastic though!
Tangle free, again in all honesty its okay but if anything marginally worse than the original IMO.
Pouch splitting…….had absolutely no issues to date and think the one I have is a small improvement on the original.
Imo my feedback to Drennan would be sort the elastic quality out its a real issue, the connection method and pouch appear slightly improved but don’t market it as tangle free you are asking for criticism.

TF_TIDALWAVE1not had any problems with the new ones yet.find them very good.

TF_Bazza4662ParticipantNot good and I will not be replacing mine either.
Simple fact is the lacy is TOO LONG and it snaps so easily, Put them side by side with any other catty and you will see they are longer in length, waste of money, I am going back to Guru now they have made the improvements, so hopefully they will be better than the first attempt -

If the elastic is too long for you then cut it to what you want !!!!!! It would only be a pain if the elastic was too short.

TF_Z12BaggerDoesn’t matter if the elastic is long or short, still snaps and tangles. A product which I wouldn’t have expected to come from drennan, poor quality.

TF_rb211Cut the elastic down to what length you want they are still crap !
-
24/08/2013 at 3:41 pm #168475
TF_AnthonywatersParticipantAll catties snap and tangle I use the old Drennans and go through loads of elastic think about a 5 hr match where your pulling it back and forth 1200 times (pardon the expression!) Its hardly surprising they don’t last long
-
24/08/2013 at 5:11 pm #168477
TF_iansi01354Whilst all elastics snap, very rarely have I ever snapped it second time out.
Replaced the elastic with matrix pole elastic and it lasted 3 months and is still going strong!
Can’t hide from the fact the elastic appears poor.

TF_the jesterwaste of money,i have all the ranges and must say at 8 quid a time i would have thought that drennan would have got it right for once, the elastics are too long, tangle free,i don`t think so,don`t waste your money on these,go and buy the guru range which are far better.

Why the hell should I cut it ??, I buy a product to use, not to start cutting it to suit. When I first bought it I did not realise the length was wrong, it is too long for me and they tangle every time you use it, total garbage.
If you have nothing else but sarcastic comments to say and nothing constructive, I suggest you say nothing -

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI cut all drennan elastic back I chop 3 inch off automatically

TF_daveyboyWell I bought two, when they first came out and have gone back to using the old drennan catty, very poor for a drennan product

TF_bryanhParticipantI do a LOT of pellet waggler fishing and have no problems with catty elastic. The solution is quite simple; don’t chuck your old Hydrolastic away when re-rigging your top kits.
I have two old Drennan cattys’ fitted with grey Hydro which was fitted at least two months ago and they’re still going strong. Yes the hydro does eventually wear at the connection points but a few millimetres trimmed of the broken ends and the cattys’ are good for another couple of months hard use. -
27/08/2013 at 7:44 pm #168550
TF_badgerParticipantI been using a Middy for 6mm pellets up to 16metre so far so good the pouches seem up to the task and the elastic appears to be hard wearing.

TF_cormorantReading all the negative comments about Drennan’s new range of catapults I wonder if anyone has contacted Drennan direct with their complaints and if so what was the reply?
It is no good just complaining on this forum.
I personally still use the old match ‘pults and have very few problems, changing the elastic about once a year and the cups when they crack due to me not using the puller at the base.
Note, I do not do much pellet waggler fishing!cormorant.

TF_Z12BaggerThis was there reply.
Firstly please accept our apologies for the delay in this reply.
Fishing a canal session suggests using one of the two smaller catapults (Ultra Soft and/or Light). For 10m distance these should be perfect with no problems. To break one of these 6 or 7 times in one session is unheard of and suggests to me 1 of 2 things:
1) Pulling the elastic back too far so it is at full stretch. So using the Ultra soft when the soft is better suited.
2) Faulty elastic – I do not know how it could be, as we use the same grade of elastic as the Team England Deli-Caty’s which have proven themselves for nearly 20 years.
I guess it depends where it has snapped. If it has snapped right at the connection to the frame or the pouch maybe the peg is not smooth and damaged the elastic or maybe the elastic has been over-stretched at that point.
They are twist free. The elastic doesn’t spin up and hold it’s twist. But, of course, it is possible to wrap the elastic around the frame depending upon your technique. That happens with every catapult.
Of course, now that you have given these away to juniors we are unable to tell you exactly why this problem occurred. But if you experience any problem in the future with any other Drennan items please feel free to contact the retailer from whom you originally purchased it from. They will contact us in turn so any defect can be addressed.
Best regards
Richard Norris

TF_Z12BaggerTo be honest the reply the basically says “human error” and there is nothing wrong with the product, which in my opinion is incorrect and by looking at other peoples views I am not alone.

fisherman philParticipantI did state at the start of this thread I had been in touch with Drennan and was just looking for further views on this product as it was mentioned before that people had, had the same problems as me with the pouch splitting as Drennan are intrested in seeing these

TF_Fred DavisPhil, it might be worth sending them a link to this thread so they can read anglers comments, quite a few of the postal lads have purchased these catapults and there views are reflected in the comments made regarding the elastic and pouches mostly the elastic not lasting a full session and snapping up, as for cutting the elastic why should anglers have to tinker with a product that they have paid good money for, I don’t personally think it’s worth complaining my recommendation would be with any faulty product return it to the shop and either get it exchanged or your money back, rest assured if anglers did this any faults will soon get sorted.
Any product sold has to be fit for purpose if not return it. -

TF_spotter1707I find it difficult to accept the Drennan response regarding the elastic breaking at the pouch. All 3 of my catapults have broken at this position, & to say that the pin is not smooth & the elastic has been overstretched indicates, to me, a design fault. After all i would not expect to have to “rub down” this before re-attaching the pouch. If am are to understand it the elastics are too long in the first place, so i suppose i will have a good excuse to modify the pouch at the same time i cut down the elastic! IMO this product is not up to Drennan normal high standard.
Very dissapointed in both product & Drennan response!

TF_spotter1707fisherman phil,
i’ve seen video demos of these catapults on the drennan website. They feature Peter Drennan & Alan Scotthorne!!!!! It was because of these GLOWING reports i invested in 3 of the 4 models.
I will ring Drennan wednesday,
Another gripe as well, why don’t they float?
I remember a guy on this forum, called Rob from the channel islands, saying the best use for an ABU closed face reel was as keepnet weight! Maybe 3 of these catapults tied together would serve the same purpose! I bit expensive i know, but you live & learn.
Regards Peter -

TF_rjaysI purchased all four in the Revolution Range in the close season this year…..on Sunday the first of the four (green elastic) has snapped 2 inches from the frame….this has only been used at weekends during the river season!!…..not what I expect for £8 each
