The Shakespeare-backed Evesham Angling Festival Ladies Championship is in danger of being scrapped if entry numbers do not increase significantly over the next few weeks.
Despite extensive media promotion the organisers are disappointed that the competition is not being supported and a decision has been made that if entries are not in excess of 40 ladies then the event will be cancelled.
Festival co-organiser Dave Harrell said: “For me personally it would be a real shame if this event dies. I created it five years ago after listening to ladies complaining that there weren’t enough high profile matches for them to compete in. This one carries sponsorship of £1,000 in cash, fabulous trophies and tackle sponsorship as well as a shot at the main Shakespeare final, which carries a £6,000 top prize, for the winner but for some reason the ladies don’t seem interested. The festival Working Group has therefore decided that if there aren’t 40 entrants by July 1st then the event will be scrapped.â€
