MrFoxmanI’ve been using expanders for years and i have had one problem with them and i can’t find a way of preventing it from happening. The problem is after they’ve been pumped a while later a few float which is a pain in the arse. I pump them 3 times until they all sink but i think it’s because they are left open for air to get in them or something, i think that’s why they end up floating.
I make them the night before and put them in an air tight bag into the fridge and once on the bank i put them in a bait box.
Putting a lid on them would be the best option probably but it just takes too long having to take the lid off, put it back on etc, just can’t be bothered.
I’m going to be trying the new ringers expanders as they seem to be the doggy’s wotsits, so maybe the same thing won’t happen on these who knows.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Matt

TF_Chris OwenParticipantAfter pumping on the bank leave them in water to stop the air getting in them making them float.

TF_baitchefParticipantThe best soft pellet I have ever seen are soaked Cornish bagging pellets. Once soaked they have the perfect texture, they wont disintegrate and absolutely every single one sinks. I just wish I new who manufactured them, I have a feeling they are Coppens but am only speculating.

They go like mush if you leave them in water for too long though?

MrFoxmanDynamite are the ones i use, i’ve found they have been the best out of the lot on the market but i will put the next generation expanders through their paces this weekend hopefully.

petejonesi was always under the impression that the cornish bagging pellets(whiteacres pellets) are dynamite pellets re-packaged

TF_GavinI leave just a little water in the bottom of the expanders and keep turning them over with my hand while fishing (like I would casters on a warm day) Works for me!

pasteHave you tried the GOT expanders? Or Yorkshire baits ?

TF_matchpleasureI only ever fish expanders on the hook and the best 1’s i have been using for years are vde rs elite and ringers by far. However i prepare them unlike most people in that i have never used a pump for the exact reasons people say and thats because you cant gaurantee every 1 of them sinking. I put them in a small bait tin, (usually just enough 1 or 2 matches), pour over 2 disolved sheets of geletine and leave them in the fridge over night. Then when using on the bank, keep them in the same tin or pole cup and have a tub of water on yer tray, i then gently squeeze every one under the water before hooking them. I know some on here will say, thats to much messing around and ‘you’ll loose time in a match’ but seriously you wont and the geletine really helps keep them together. you will never have another pellet crack or split on you again!~clap

TF_baitchefParticipantIts funny but I was under the impression Dynamite baits hard pellets were re bagged Skrettings. But Cornish bagging pellets are nothing like skrettings.

TF_Johnny MacMr Foxman, they won’t go like mush. Pump them 3 times when you get to your peg, tip them into a baitbox and cover with water. They’ll be perfect at the all-in and will stay perfect for the duration of the match. I’ve mostly been using Sonubait Fin Perfect expanders, but sometimes I just get the cheapo , no label ones.

MrFoxmanPaste, yes i’ve tried the GOT expanders and i know people rate them highly and i do like them a lot but just prefer Dynamites although they aren’t as good as they used to be. I haven’t tried yorkshire baits though.
Thanks for your help everyone that has replied, i will try some of the ideas that has been said and see how i get on, thanks again.

TF_matt roseveari do the same as matchpleasure with the gelatine.imo a hook pellet that floats b4 the hook goes in is beter than a sinker as the weight of the hook is often enough to sink them anyway but they sink at a slower rate than a sinker and act mutch like a loose fed pellet, rather than a sinker with a hook in that sinks to fast and so looks unatural
-
11/02/2010 at 9:16 pm #93992
MrFoxmanI started off using gelatine but i just got annoyed with it. For hookers they’re good but having to pull them apart one by one for feed just made it not worth it and so i bought a vacuvin pump and it’s much better. Although some anglers do prefer to use gelatine i know.
I reckon if you have a lot of fish your peg then a gelatine expander will be better as they stay on the hook better. This will enable you to strike a few times before the pellet comes off.
At the end of they it’s personal preference as is most things in the wonderful world of fishing ~clap

The Dukemr foxman please report your findings on the new next generation expanders please as i have also heard very good reports about them

TF_matt roseveari didnt no you was feeding them aswell mate thought you was on bout hookers.to make you feeder stay sinkers you could try puting a gloopy flavouring on them, thick molases, the source or something simular
-
11/02/2010 at 9:30 pm #93999
MrFoxmanWill do Duke.
Matt i found molases a very good additive last year but if i’m toally honest i don’t find liquids catch you more fish than a standard bait. That’s why i stopped using it on my expanders. I know it makes sense for added flavours to do that but i just haven’t seen any difference. If it helps my expanders to stay sinkers then i will start using it again, cheers.

TF_matt rosevearput the flavouring on after you have pumped them and took them out of the pump and there in a bait tub

AnonymousI only use plain and simple 4ml Skretting expanders. I pump them twice until all sink and leave them in the water until they have expanded fully. I then drain off all the water and put them in an air tight container (ASDA). I just leave them in the fridge over night and they are perfect. Simply turn them over in the container once or twice during the match to keep the pellets on the top damp and they should all sink without a problem.
As fare as i am aware. The Cornish bagging pellets are Dynamite baits pellets re-bagged. Skretting make Dynamite baits pellets.

Last year when at white acres i saw the old guy who walks around picking up rubbish unloading sacks of skretting from a car and taking them into the bait shop.

TF_carpmagicParticipantTrav, that would have been for the fish farm as the Cornish bagging pellets arrive already packaged and in boxes of 20 or 25.
