TF_JonniTimmsA single copy of your magazine is £3.50, costing over the course of 12 months £42.
Ho come when i look to take out a subscription, i am asked to pay £4 more?
Call me a tight yorkshireman if you like, but i subscribe to two other magazines and save in excess of 20% on the cover price and get free gifts to almost the value that the subscription itself costs.
Im not sure i see the logic in making a subscription more expensive over a year than the cover price, despite how tempting the “free” gift (that your really paying £4 for) is.
I think i will hold back on the subscription i was going to take out for now im afraid.

TF_MarkTIt’s only 33p extra a month, you get it a week earlier and it’s delivered to your house. Plus the free gift.
If you had it on order from a paper shop and you had them deliver it, you’d have to pay them for doing that. Can’t see the problem with it myself.

TF_JonniTimmsI still don’t think its competitive with other magazines.
Im not going to name magazines, but one i subscribe to is £3.99 cover price. I paid £27 for the year, with a free gift totalling £22.
The other is the same cover price, slightly more expensive for the year, and came with a similar gift.
The gift isnt even the issue, i would rather recieve nothing, but pay save money on the cover price, the gift is just a bonus reason to subscribe.

There is also an offer on their website that is – £3 for 3 issues then 3 quarterly payments of £7.88 for the rest of the year – £26.64. Now thats a bargain.

TF_geepsterParticipantGuys, I can assure you that publisher’s don’t make any money out of free gifts. The extra you are paying will be to cover the free gift (bought at cost price minus something) and the postage (if it’s bait, the postage can be quite substantial), plus the cost of posting the magazines. Or you Can subscribe cheaper and not get the free gift.
I’m sure the majority of anglers would prefer publishers go to the effort of sourcing free gifts to give anglers the choice, than not bother….
The other option of course is to just swallow the cost of both and it coming out of your margin.
For instance, currently if you subscribe to OnlineFishing.tv, you get £40 of Ultima match line. The combined cost of this and postage is getting on for ten quid – and like the magazines we are only able to achieve prices this low because of contra advertising etc. Postage costs you can do nothing about, and they are higher than they used to be.
However, this cost is currently coming straight off the bottom line as the cost of joining (£29.70) hasn’t gone up and we are not charging anything for postage.
However, this kind off offer simply can’t be maintained in the long term…

TF_LouiseWincottThanks for the explanation Gareth, you’re almost right…
The current subscription options on Match Fishing are –
Cheapest option – £3 for three issues followed by Direct Debit payment. Total price for the first 12 issues is £26 odd. Includes 12 mags delivered to your door. Only available for postal applications because of the Direct Debit forms.
Standard discount option – 20 per cent off the cover price. Total price for 12 issues £33.60. Includes 12 mags delivered to your door. Available over the phone or on line (card payment) or via post with a cheque.
Gifted option – 12 issues delivered to your door plus a Sensas bait pack (FOR WHICH YOU PAY THE POSTAGE AND PACKING – currently £4) Total price for 12 issues and the gift delivered to your door £46. The £46 is 12 x the cover price PLUS delivery of the gift.
Hope this clarifies the options. All details can be found at the Match Fishing website, or you can contact me directly if you have any further queries on 01327 315419.
Thanks, Louise

TF_JonniTimmsThanks Louise, i will take out the £26 option shortly, to me thats a very good deal.
Maybe these options should be better advertised? As the only one i have seen before is the gifted option.

TF_GavinLooked for it in my library before and never found it!
Guess I’m lucky as I pick up my copy from the newsagent practically next to my local tackle shop- no worries! Did subscribe but I found myself constantly chasing my copy, in a year I only got 1 issue before I could have got it in the shop! A few copies never arrived and I had to get them re-sent. Never had a problem with any other mags I subscribed too (Advanced Carp and Advanced Pole, as it was then) so can only assume a postie was taking a fancy to my copy of Match Fishing!
