Fish to Win Pairs – Final Round Six – Sumners Ponds – Match Results

The Final Round of the inaugural FTW Pairs competition sponsored by Big Fish Tackle promised to be an exciting event with four pairs in the running for the championship, and with the change in the weather conditions there were signs that the fish were in the mood for spawning so anything could happen today.

Unusual for this venue it was the car park swims that produced some of the top weights with Chris Nicholls (Garbolino Apollo) Winning the match with 135lb 6oz with included a 20+ carp and picking up 1 valuable point and Alec Roberts (Middy) on his first visit to Sumners Ponds came 2nd in section with 112lb 12oz also on the car park swims, Terry Harrison (Diawa – Dorking) fishing as a substitute for Pete Upperton came 3rd with 111lb 6oz so 3 of the top pairs scored good points in section A.

Geoff Vallance (Preston Innovations – Delcac) also a contender for the Pairs and Individual Title scored maximum points in section B with 113lb 4oz with included about 70lb of chub with the rest made up of carp. Graham Dack (Middy) came 2nd in section with 110lb 8oz and Tony Lock (Garbolino Apollo) came 3rd with 97lb 4oz which meant six of the top eight anglers scored good points to keep things interesting in the race for the pairs championship.

So it was down to where the last two anglers came and with Robbie Taylor and Zac Brown both on holiday it was down to there substitutes. Lee Palmer (Preston Innovations – Delcac) fishing for Zac Brown scored 8 Points and Don Garnish (Preston Innovations – Delcac) fishing for Robbie Taylor scored 6 points so the final placings would go down to the wire as your best five matches counted with your worst weight being dropped.

Picking up the honours and winning the inaugural Pairs Championships in first place was Robbie Taylor (Preston Innovations – Delcac) & Pete Upperton (Middy) with 25 points.

In second place with 26 points was Chris Nicholls & Tony Lock both fishing for (Garbolino Apollo) and in 3rd place was Alec Roberts & Graham Dack both (Middy)

Winning the Individual Weight League was Geoff Vallance (Preston Innovation – Delcac) with 590lb, 2nd place was Chris Nicholls (Garbolino Apollo) with 525lb and in 3rd place was Pete Upperton (Middy) with 503lb 4oz
