TF_drawbag1967Can anyone give me any tips, I need to fish up to an island between 14 and 16m in 2 foot of water, the problem I have is the obvious, 25% of the f*****s come off before I get over there, another problem is the lake is surrounded by a path but behind you is a ten foot bank, any tips on roller positions.

SploogieHave you tried using a custom pole pot with a cable tie along the blank to keep the line out of the water, I would expect by your question that different expanders are out of the question. If not skins are good.

TF_carpmagicParticipantTry the New Ringers next generation expanders, they have a firmer texture and a far better consistency than other expanders. They have been in the shops a couple of weeks now so you should be able to get hold of them. Alternatively you should be able to get your shop to order them in for you.

TF_drawbag1967I’ve found someone who’s got them but what would you use as your feed pellet.

bodgeParticipanti use the bait tech expanders and have never had a problem, sounds like your over soaking them to me. pump them normally and then just leave them in enough water to just coat them. this will give you a firmish texture and they wont come off. i can strike with mine and they stay on. do them the night before and fridge them over night, that will help even more with a firmer texture.

Lazy AlI use Ringers cool water and they are superb.
Also when you get a bite just lift dont strike.
Not tried the new Generation as yet, pumped some the other day, they are firmer but smaller.
will be using them this weekend. -

not sure who your speaking too then?
as has been mentioned before gelatine is the key,
prepared the night before absolutely deadly.
prepared properly you should be able to strike and the expander still be on the hook.
try using a pinch of dampened micros or micro slop in a tiny pot as feed, squash them into the pot so it stays in till you turn the pot upside down and tap the pole.
oh and btw try a milo prince roller in confined spaces you can ship back twice with it. -

TF_Nigel.Cor, been there mate, worst problems i had in the fish ‘o’ final in 2003 shipping, and breaking down a 16m floating pole, and having the dam expander fall off!!
It was before jelly pellets and hook pellets, its when we were all doing our own, and hooking them though the end of the pelet not the side which is better.
Now i wouldent attempt to use an expander at 16m, especialy if your breaking your pole, you would have to use a suitable pellet, like the new ringers ones or the sonubaits hook pellets.
(in tubs, or packets if you want feed and hook pellets the same, they need a good soak though!) -

TF_HillbillyI have used the Ringers 4.5 and 6mm cold waters at 16mtrs quite a few times with no real problems.

bodgeParticipanti never pump my pellets on the bank. never have done. its just something else i need to carry. never had a problem doing them the night before and as i said the texture is spot on that way (i think anyway) think about how much better your micros are after a night in the fridge once soaked….

bodgeParticipantthat said im a hard pellet fan too, that will solve your problems

TF_mp.miloI use the Got baits 6mm and skretting 4mm expanders and dont have a problem shipping to 16mtrs with these.Although if you have to break the pole down and re-join to ship out it can be a pain.
I pump my expanders 30 mins before the all in and have never had any problems doing them this way.
As Bodge said Hard pellet could be another way to go. -

TF_GaryI always pick out a handfull of expanders that i pump/ soak slightly less than the rest to use as hookers. They are also slightly more buoyant, which helps to counteract the weight of the hook. Once you have done that, you need to ship out VERY smoothly and you will be fine. If you bounce the pole around, the pellet will frequently drop off. This comes down to having a good pole, good technique and lots of practice.
Failing that, just use hard pellets (hair-rigged or banded)!

TF_Johnny Macdrawbag 1967 – You could try placing your hookbait in a tosspot like you would with paste. I’ve not really had problems with mine coming off. I always pump my pellets on the bank, Andy May showed me how, and if it’s good enough for God it’s good enough for me 🙂
As for your other problem. I fish a few places with high banks and what people use there is a very long bank stick (6ft plus). Attach an old landing net head (large) with the mesh removed. Cover the frame of the net head with pipe lagging and tape it up. You could have your roller on the edge of the bank, before it drops away, then guide your pole into the hoop.

MrFoxmanThe ringers next generation expanders are the best i’ve used, i’m pretty sure they will stay on at 16m, they do when shipping at 13m and having to break down twice. You can’t over soak them so they are the perfect texture and stay on brilliantly with the right hook size.
Also try putting the expander in a toss pot like Johnney has said and then cover with micro’s.
For anyone that has not tried these new ringers expanders i suggest you try them out, you won’t be disappointed! ~clap

TF_S.shallaDONT LEAVE THEM IN THE PUMP/WATER TOO LONG 5 MINS THEN ON THE RIDDLE, THEN IN A SMALL BAG, NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM, ONLY USE FIN PERFECT 4MM N 6MM AND COOL WATERS!
ALSO TRY PUTTING A HAND FULL INTO A BAG AND COVERING BARELY IN WATER,(NO PUMPING) THEN SQUEEZING ALL THE AIR OUT THE BAG AND TYING UP TIGHT TOO THE WATER!AND LEAVING IN THE FRIDGE OVERNIGHT; THIS DOESNT ALLOW THEM TOO SWELL TOO MUCH AND GIVES A FIRMER LIGHTER PELLET ALMOST NEUTRAL BUYANCY UNTIL A HOOK IS IN THEM! ALSO TRY TOO USE A WIDE GAPED 18 HOOK I.E B911 OR 20 MT6 HOOKING THROUGH THE SIDE!
ALSO THE RINGERS NEXT GENERATION ARE NOT REALLY A WINTER HOOK PELLET FROM WHAT I’V SEEN OF THEM! SO NOT REALLY SUITED TOO THIS NICE WEATHER WERE HAVING!

dukeyParticipantMR Foxman you beat me to it.Tried the ringers next generation expanders yesterday and was very impressed. I used the 6m on a the feeder and on a few occasions when i netted fish the pellet was still on the hair rig. not seen that with an expander before.

TF_baitchefParticipantFirst thing I would be asking myself is…is it really necessary to be using an expander at all? If there is the slightest inkling they will accept a hard pellet then I would be on it like a flash. You will save so much more time and fish far more efficiently if you hair rig it and you will hit every indication as well.

TF_carpkid1ParticipantIve been using GOT 4mm and 6mm all winter fishing 14m+ most of it without many problems and Ive been doing them on the bank. Even had to break down a few times and still no problems.
When striking just a gentle lift and if you miss the bite your expander should still be there.
It’s all about smooth action, just don’t rush things and you’ll have no problems what so ever ~clap
Just play with your rollers a bit before all in and make sure they are spot on to avoid them Sharpe movements. use the one roller with pole sock and postion it so that you can rest the first part of pole on your knees and the other section fits straight in and you havent got move your pole.

TF_dave brittainBuy a pellet pump and some expanders, (GOT baits are very good as are their hooker pellets).
Buy some gelatine disolve it in hot water, (I add two packets of gelatine to what the recommended level is 2/1). Put your pellets in the pump, add water and then pump the pellets and release the air twice in quick succesion making sure all the pellets sink each time. This will give you quite a rubbery pellet you can use on a rod and reel. Pump the pellets and release the air 3 times and you get a softer pellet, softer again with 4 times.
Take the pellets out of the pump drain them on a maggot riddle for 5 mins and then put them in a plastic bag take the air out, tie it and fridge them over night. You’ll now have pellets you can make to your own spec every time with the consistency of pellet to suit your needs.
I normally do several batches at a time and freeze the bags of pellets until I need them, taking them out of the freezer the night before, (put them in the fridge over night).
