Seen some reports of fishing either side of the severn bridge at Aust on the net. Anyone with any experience of this area. Some family have moved to Thornbury and I fancy a go. Only ever tried sea fishing with a heavy spinning rod and reel for Bass on holidays. ( no luck yet) I have a Fladen 12 foot tele that will cast 3oz (Vantage Telecarb)Would this be suitable. What am I likely to catch and what methods and bait. Any Bass or Mullet in this area or is it too far up the estuary. Can you fish any higher up. I noticed on Google earth that there are some small inlets further up stream with boat moored ( oldbury on Severn). Do they attact fish.
I know there are a lot of questions but I would be most grateful for any info.

        Thanks

        Rob

I think you might want to upgrade your tackle mate……

I understand you need heavy leads due to strong pull on the tide……6oz +……

No doubt someone from that area,or who fishes it a lot,can help better……

          Good luck,

          Si.

Certainly need to beef up your tackle im afraid. Rod to cast 6oz to hold in the fierce tide and a 525 mag or SLOSH type reel to crank it all back in with a cod attached (hopefully)! You can fish further up at Littleton(?) and I think there may be places for mullet style fishing but youre best to ask at local; shops such as Olivers in Clevedon. Be very careful though, Aust is not an easy or nice place to fish and the mud is hideous. First time i went there i got stuck in the mud and cut off by the tide in the dark and wet myself in more ways than one. To start on the channel try the wall at Severn Beach, 1 1/2 hrs either side of high water or Layde Bay. Much safer and comfortable. Look on the veals website for info and local catch reports. Matt
