TF_MinoHelp. I have been fishing a match today and have been pulling my hair out .
I had carp fizzing in my peg for 4.5hrs yet i have only landed 5, lost 6 and had countless indications.
My peg was 5ft deep and it was flat. I fed 40 x 3mm pellet at the start. 30 minutes in and they began to blow.
I fished 0.2g & 0.4g with a 4mm or 6mm expander on the hook feeding 20 x 3mm pellet every put in. I tried going well to the left and right of where i feed but got no indications. I couldn’t go further due to the wind. I tried off the bottom but got nothing.
2 of the fish came to paste late on but again i got numerous indications which i couldn’t hit.
Any suggestions to what i could have done to convert more of these indications to fish
Thanks Ewan~think

TF_andy cranes mateParticipantI would say its your feeding. I don’t use 3mm pellets as feed anymore as I’ve had too many days just as your discribing.

TF_MinoThanks for your reply.
I’ve come away thinking that it may have been better to feed 4mm pellet and fewer of them every put in.

TF_andy cranes mateParticipantYes mate. Think how quick 3mm’s break down. And how easy lots of fish in your peg can stir them up off the bottom.

TF_GavinCould be species other than carp…
I also prefer to find a slight slope, and not fish right on the bottom of it if possible to avoid the worst of any silt and stop the fizzing which seems to help.

chosserParticipantsun bathe because there is no cure when this happens its just a disaster spiraling out of control all you can do is chuck a method feeder in the middle of it and get your packed lunch out ?

AnonymousUse very soft paste at dead depth and almost hang on to the float/hold the line from the pole tip to the bristle so there is no line touching the water. The carp will often hook themselves in these types of situations! You will feel the bump as the carp suck the paste in to there mouths and then attempt to blow it out again at speed. Im of the belief that the fish are sucking and blowing the bait in and out of there mouths very fast to test or tasting the bait. Fishing paste at dead depth on a tight line crates a bolt rig effect. If those bites were from silvers. You would catch quite a few of them on pellets. If they where line bites. You would foul hook at least 1 in 3. Only reasonable answer to me in that the hook bait has been sucked in to the carps mouth then blown out before your able to strike! Sucking and blowing could easily create loads of fizzing in your peg! Also interesting that carp often fizz on quite small amounts of feed. I can think of several venues where feeding only 2 or 3 pellets is enough to get the carp in your swim fizzing.

Ewan you scottish internationals should be able to sort this out.
Fish worm shallow with peat moss.~clap ~clap
Seriously though, had similar fizzing fishing for carp yesterday but when I shallowed up I started getting bites. Could it be fish gill feeding on bottom.

TF_MinoHi Dunno,
After my European adventures in June, i’m so out of touch with whats going on at my local venues.
The fizzing is something which has only began happening on this venue within the last 3 – 4 months. But this particular pond presents some other problems:
1. On most of the pegs, you’ll only catch on the tip in the 1st hour
2. Once you go beyond 5 sections, the bottom is flat. Not enough carp come that close to win a match
3. It is very rare to catch off the bottomAs this is a problem i’ve not encountered before, i know when i need to ask for help.

worm drownerTry a second swim. One at ten and one at two o’clock. If you didn’t have space for two swims then three maggots on a 16 will keep fish coming

TF_rocketFeederEwan,
I’ve had this loads on there, lost circa 30lb one match and only weighed 20lb. I have a couple of workarounds I will show you next match if you like. The fizzing doesn’t just happen with Pellet either, I’ve found it happens regardless of what you feed. Very frustrating. -

TF_Nigel.I had it yesterday too. Mine were skimmers, i fed a ball of Green swimstim, and it fizzed like crazy. I fed a kinder pot each put and fished paste, hard on a spring and tried soft on the hook, still struggled for a couple of skimmers.
I then switched to corn, and ended with 28 skimmers for 35lb.
I agree with coming closer up the slope off the silt, they have there heads in the silt when you feed micros or groundbait, and a change is the required, either come closer, or switch to a bigger bait. -

TF_RossnIt’s a shame that the lakes where this happens are always so coloured, I’d love to see shots from an underwater camera of exactly what’s happening down there when you get driven mad by fizzing.
Hemp seems to make matters worse, I can’t believe that it’s heavy enough to get buried in silt but I’ve had some days where the swim is an absolute jacuzzi yet the float sits in the middle, dead still and refusing to go under. What ever are the carp doing when there’s all that fizzing ? and why does it happen so much with hemp ?
Funny thing was that yesterday at Stubpond if you didn’t feed hemp then no fizzing. Feed hemp and lots of fizzing together with a mixture of foul hookers and properly hooked, don’t feed hemp and there seemed to be no fish in the peg and those people didn’t catch at all.
It can be a frustrating old game at times can’t it.

TF_swingtipbrytry at 2to3ft a hard banded 6mm pellet chuck by hand 3 or 4 pellets when you think they have hit the bottom chuck the next lot but keep droping the hook bait with the feed but spread the feed to a large area about 3metre square but never drop the rig in the same place drop the rig at least a metre away from the last drop in
i think sometimes when you have fish feeding clouding the bottom you can get them higher in better water quality
this method is better pm
try a bit of paste around your exspander or soft hooker and try not strikeing -

TF_fillitinsomemoreIf fishing off the bottom or on the edge of fizzing does not work chuck a tin of corn on the bubbles and watch them disappear. As if you had not guessed this is a do or die method but when it works you will seriously know about it, and lets face it your swim is knackered anyway

TF_nick_the_2ndMino, I dont know the venue or the target weight but if you suffer the same thing again and cannot catch shallow, try swinging out a conker bomb over your pole line. ~shh
Hold on tight to the rod though bites will be savage!

TF_makerin my expirience its usually a silty bottom and fishing anything 3mm or below. Going shallow never works because they have usually got there heads down or a few inches off bottom, a bigger bait seems to do the trick, or as someone says get the newspaper out or get a tan.

Giles1ParticipantIf your peg fizzes it because you have fed too much but you can make this worse by feeding micros. Feed the same size pellet as you are using onthe hook. 6mms are ideal and when the fizzing starts, put a shallow rig over the top and starve them up. Start at half depth and then look to get them shallower.
You should start to get a few bites on that. If your peg is 5ft deep then its for carp to feed comfortably on the deck so they will naturally want to come up as the day goes on. I tend to feed two and three 6mms at a time with a catty and never pot anyting in.

TF_Mikey .J.What about in shallower water? I was in a match last night and the lake is only 3-4ft deep. VERY silty. I was feeding micros and the bites were few an far between yet i KNEW the fish were down there feeding. Would you come shallow even in that depth of water? Will have to try feeding 6mm next time i reckon!

Giles1ParticipantFizzing will happen in all depths if you feed too heavily. Carp tend to suck in large quantities of silt and pellet then filter it through their gills at anything up to mid depth. I fish 6 inches deep at times when I fish shallow so yeah, the peg doesn’t have to be really deep for them to come up.
Personally, I would leave your micros out on the garden for the sparrows as I m struggling to think of another use for them. Too many people feed them and then get problems. As for paste fishing and feeding with a pot, I just never do it as you will get battered by someone feeding regularly with a catty. Fish move to the vibrations so ping 6mms at dead depth and the look to come up.. missing bites is usually a good sign to have a look shallower, even if you see no signs.

TF_Mikey .J.Never thought about it like that before. Will give it a try! Great info. Cheers.
