as I’m thinking about upgrading/replacing my current setup – in your opinions – what would be the perfect float rod and reel combo to cover all situations.

odds and sods that dont match really and I’d like a matched pair of rods/reels
I have an old DAM 13′ spliced tip
A Ron Thompson 13′ match rod
            A Shakey 14/18 LXL
and 2 shimano nexave reels that are a bit
            undergunned

            I’m thinking about 2 x TDR’s with 2 x Carbonactives

I’d keep the 14/18 shakey for if you do bolo fishing, or much river fishing.

My recommendation would depend really on what fishing you mostly want it for. Maybe a pair of tourny 13/15 rods with two 2508 tdr’s? Will Riason uses the tournament rods for commercials, and they are great river rods. The spectron 13/15 rods are a bit cheaper, and I presume just as adaptable. Might as well get a 13/15 as it covers more bases for you, and at about 30 quid extra it’s not so much to pay for the 15ft rod for stick/river waggler fishing

Kev if you are thinking of carbon actives I have one in garage that I haven’t used in ages, you are welcome to give it a try, it should hold up fine on the lake for ‘nearly’ everything in there. Unfortunately all my TDR’s get used, but I would thoroughly recommend them.
