Hi, with wire stems offering most stability but easily bending even with having plenty of rubbers on, would a glass stem offer the same amount of stability as it is slighty thicker or would this take the stability out, could you just place a small shot directly under the stem to make it heavier and more stable? Is it a must to use wire stems in bad conditions? could you just use a carbon/glass but with adding shot?

        Thanks Ryan.

it would work adding a shot, acting like a keel, but would also make the float bounce around when shipping in and out as the weight would not be distributed. Wire is not necessarily more stable than glass and glass is not necessarily more stable than carbon as it depends upon the actual size/weight of stem anyway. But, if they were identical in length/diameter then wire should be heavier.

It works very well and because the weights are placed right at the base of the stem they help the float to “stand up” when being shipped out and I find they bounce less than a wire float especially if fishing with a shallow rig. The trick is to weigh up the likelyhood of a wire float getting bent against any advantage using one might give you.
