Anyone owned one my mates seen one on Ebay and is after some honest answers about how good they are ? Especially how good they are when fishing long 14.5m & 16m he currently owns a Maver 151 and is looking for something he can fish at 16m occasionally. Your feedback would be very much appreciated, Anthony

They were Garbolino’s flagship pole a few years ago, my mate had one and it was brilliant at 14.5 and perfectly fishable at 16m. From what i can remember it was a fairly light pole and well balanced. He only weighs about 9 stone wet through and used to fish 16m for 5 hours no problem.

Certainly good at 14.5m and fishable at 16m. Not sure on spares availability, although I’m pretty sure the Superlegion sections fit (same mandrel) The new Garbo top-kits will still fit too.

I had one years ago, great pole in its day but is a bit dated by todays poles.

None of the newer pole parts will fit ie; number 4s or top kits.

If it is going cheap enough with plenty of top kits, grab it, it will last for years trust me.

Chris, I know the 4’s won’t fit, but I’m pretty sure the tops will. I know someone that had one and I’m certain they used their tops off it on their Superlegion when they upgraded. All the new tops fit the Superlegion so they must fit surely?

I’ve got 4 of them, i have had one for 12 years ish and i can go up to 18 – 20 mtrs but not for to long. I fish mine at 16mtrs plenty of times during a match and its normally no problem when it is a problem is when its windy they bend fairly badly and i have to bury the tip in the water to stop pulling the rig around. Were they come into there own is there ability to play carp i have not had one break yet and have had carp to 18lb on it, this is not to say its a carp bagging pole because it isn’t but if the carp average 2lb to 8lb it will handle them all day long. I bought the other 3 poles for the top kits, parallel ext and the rest as spares, great pole for the money My original cost £1400, my 2nd cost £250 and the 3rd/4th cost me £300 for both so there are some bargains out there.

Really don’t see the point in buying a pole thats 10 years old, if not even more come to think of it. Especially at the price you can pick up decent second hand one’s now.

Really good commercial pole, like gotgaz says they tend to sag after a lot of use this is down to the female ends of joints wearing thin can have a carbon wrap put on them which regains a bit of stiffness.
Topkits & sections of latter of Garbolino poles don’t interchange as there too wide bore, earlier ones a better chance or preston gis series as the top 4’s from Renaissance sit straight on them.
Still got one & few bits use for heavy work upto 2 years ago still got it out at Drayton.

I had one a good few years ago and it was at the time Garbo’s flagship pole but by todays standards it would be outclassed by most £500 poles. Spare sections were and more likely now are very expensive. Clearly they still do surface on eBay and you could always buy another for spares but TBH why bother as there are now a vast array of better new sub £500 poles on the market,

I was asked a year or so ago if I could find out about spares etc for the Renaissance, and was told direct by France that none of the more recent poles would interchange, not even the top kits.
Gav, it was a different mandrel to the Legion & League.
