To narrow it down tell us which lake you’re on. Generally you will catch on any method including the method, pellet wag, pole & down the edge. Pellet is the dominant bait with banded hard pellet the easiest to use. If you fish for silvers then worm & caster will catch plenty of skimmers & roach.
Fish the method to about 10 foot from the rope & feed 8mm pellets to your feeder. If you see signs of fish swirling change to pellet wag. Feed ground bait & try the pole at 12m with soft pellet, but be aware the fish are big & take no prisoners. Feed 4mm/6mm/hemp & caster at your rig & fish the pole up in the water if you get signs of fish. 8mm hard banded pellet would be my choice.
Feed groundbait down the edge & top up with pellet. Fish paste or meat as hookbait, but these fish can be real monsters, so ordinary 6lb line MINIMUM & animal eyed or similar to red hydro.
Don’t fall foul of the net weight limit & i hope this helps.
          Regards Peter.

Do you have to use the fisheries own pellets at gold valley or can you bring your own ?

Check Gold valleys website for the current rules, they have been known to change.

My advice: go onto Google and type ‘gold valley blog’. You’ll find some links to a number good write-ups of Gold Valley matches on there (including a couple of mine). Also have a look at the Gold Valley page on Facebook – you’ll see all of the weigh sheets from the open matches on there.
