TF_Croydon_DaveHaving talks with Chris Dulley later this week. In order to pep up things a bit for September 18, we are considering having a golden peg with either a car worth approx £10,000 or the same amount in cash.
The golden peg will be drawn live on Talksport by the sponsor along with Keith Arthur’s peg (if he is able to fish) prior to the main draw.
The angler who draws the golden peg on the day should he (or she!) win the match overall gets the prize on top of the likely £1,500 winner’s purse.
But do you think the car is better or the dosh? The car by the way would be one of those recommended by Which? (eg Honda Jazz) not a skip on wheels. Ideal gift for the long suffering partner perhaps as opposed to something to sell?

MrFoxmanIMHO cash would be the better option. That way the winner can spend the money on whatever they want whether it’s a car or something else.

TF_geepsterParticipantI’m guessing that a car is easier to set up through insurance and sponsorship…. but yes, everyone prefers cash….

TF_MICK THE BOOKIESpoke to Dave on the phone tonight, and of course its great news. This will put the Thames Champs on the map as one of the prestige events of the year.
If i had a choice….Money or car?…The 10k for me…With that the winner could buy a car of his choice anyway if he so wished.Obviously the car idea would get sponsorship and prime advertising coverage especially from TV,RADIO,and hopefully SKY TV…..Brilliant for our sport and the Thames angling fraternity especialy. -

TF_One Out of the FrameThe only problem is that you need to win off the Golden Peg (unless I’ve read it wrong?).
£1,500 is a good pay out though, good luck with it!

TF_MICK THE BOOKIECan you imagine the pressure on the angler lucky enough to draw the Golden peg…..Not only lots of people behind him,but photographers and maybe even Sky Tv coverage….The mind boggles….How would you cope?
And what if the Golden peg happens to be the famous Bream peg(112 if i remember)…..I think you would collapse if you drew it…I know i would. -

TF_Croydon_DaveMick the Bookie – we put ply you with alcohol to make you collapse. Hang on that would cost us a lot of money – oops! Seriously, it would be a pressure cooker situation but our bouncers, sorry stewards, would keep people at bay.
Nobody argues with our big Jason – if they did he could not sign the cheques!
Thanks for the feedback guys

TF_One Out of the Frame£10,000k is a hell of a pay out though!
I’d fish my goldfish tank for that! lol
As the greedy barstewards practically thrash the water into a foam when I go past the tank even I could stand a chance of winning!
I think that Mickie the Bookie is right regarding pressure. In the old days you felt your a*se twitch if you hit a possible match winning fish on light gear and there was a decent amount of money at stake and all the talk of it being for the title rather than the money is that all the sport currently offers! lol
How many anglers have you got for it?

TF_KatarinoCash, most will sell the car anyway.

TF_the margin gnomeWhere does the money come from? Insurance policy? Not sure they would be too happy with it being drawn before the event. Certainly if it was my money i wouldnt let you! Opens up corruption.

Daddy BParticipantWhat a great option, be it cash or the car, who cares ? Can’t believe anyone could find anything negative to say about such a gesture !

TF_Nigel.Yes, i fished the million frank match at Makins years ago (about 100 grand at the time) and the golden peg was drawn by a lawyer at the presentation after the match.

TF_PaulStanI’ve played in a couple of golf tournaments that have had a new car for a hole in one on a Par 3. It gets people talking and the pressure seems to put everyone off! There are a number of companies that offer cars on some form of insurance policy for large events. Maybe they will park it behind the Golden Peg for 6 hours – better watch the pole!

TF_simon paveyI fished Walton bridge today with Mr Klinkenborg on the downstream pegs from the bridge. Loads of quality roach and dace on 13m pole , tares, corn or elderberries all shallow , feeding hemp. 4 of us on those swims and nobody caught on the feeder. Between Mr K and myself we had 14lb of silvers.
