        Grafham Water Trout Form March/April/May

Grafham Water To April 12, 2011

        Fish week 1,046 (season 2,539 ) Returns 179 (490) Rod average 5.84 (5.18)
Grafham Water has continued to fish exceptionally well this week for both bank and boat anglers with the boat anglers enjoying the best of the sport. Bank anglers have had some excellent sport along the Lodge Bank, Harbour, Gaynes Cove, Seat and Deep Water Point with these areas all producing good fishing.
The main methods for the bank anglers this week have been floating lines with buzzers, diawl bachs, GRHE and black and green tadpoles fished very slowly.

Boat anglers enjoyed the cream of the sport mainly by fishing Valley Creek, L buoy, the Stumps, Hedge End and Hill Farm. The main boat tactics have been either floating lines with long leaders with epoxy buzzers or fast sink lines with buzzers, diawl bachs, crunchers, blobs and hoppers which are also fished very slowly.

Anglers at the beginning of the week reported that trout were feeding hard on the bottom of the reservoir, but as the week went on they had moved to feeding at mid depth. The main food source seems to be either Daphnia or large buzzers.

        Grafham Water to March 28th

Fish week 591 (season 836) Returns 106(157) Rod average 5.57(5.32)
Anglers are enjoying good sport at Grafham with the unseasonal mild weather bringing the fish on well. Some anglers are reporting good catches on diawl bachs and crunchers fished slowly on midge tip lines.

With the fish out from the banks during the day the boat anglers are enjoying some good early season sport. Jim Case and two friends shared a boat during the warm spell and successfully returned 52 fish between them, all taken on nymphs fished on a floating line from a boat off Deep Water Point.

Anglers are looking forward to the rest of the season when the fish move out into open water and become the usual Grafham silver torpedoes. This won’t be long as the fish are already feeding well on daphnia in most parts of the lake. There has been some good early season buzzer hatches during the warmer spells with a few fish seen already feeding off the surface.
