Grafham Water Week ending 31 October 2010

        Fish week 181 (28,257) Returns 63 (6,559) Rod average 2.87 (4.3)
The bank fishing at Grafham is coming into its own now with the fish moving right into the shallows feeding on either shrimps or snails, with a few fish along the Dam face feeding heavily on daphnia still.

The best method from the banks seems to be small nymphs fished washing line style in front of a two tone booby on the point, especially diawl bachs or hares ears.

The boat anglers are now finding it harder as the fish have moved right into the shallows but they are still having a few fish from the North shore along the points.

        Competition news
Grafham Water hosted the annual Rudder match last Saturday with 28 anglers taking part all looking for some of the legendary big fish that Grafham is renowned for. With the anglers fishing as a pair and only the best brace coming to the scales the heat was on with them looking for quality fish. One of the first anglers to weigh in was Anglian Water’s Fisheries Manager Jon Marshall with a single fish weighing in just under 4lb. This stood for quite a while until Charles Bowers weighed in with a belter of 4lb 13oz to capture the best fish prize.

1st Mike Barrett and Carl Peers 8lb 9oz
2nd Mike Burnside and Phil Clamp 7lb 2oz
3rd Charles Bowers and Ken Plowright 6lb 10oz

Best bank areas The Seat, Plummers, dam wall, Willows, G buoy, Deep Water and Pylon Point.

Mid week boat winner Mr A Doe of Hartford, Huntingdon.

        Pike fishing
There has been some success for the predator anglers this week with Pike anglers reporting some mid doubles from around the North Tower with the Zander anglers catching from around the inlets around about I buoy with Zander being caught up to 12½lb.

Due to the confirmed presence of Dikerogammarus villosus at Grafham Water additional bio-security measures are now in place to ensure the shrimp is contained on site. This means that anglers need to follow new rules when fishing at Grafham Water.
