Grafham Water week ending Sept 27th

        Fish week 405 (25,326) Returns 125 (5,695) Rod average 3.2(4.4)
Grafham Water has once again fished well for both bank and boat anglers with the vast majority of trout being caught on floating lines with small nymphs. Bank anglers have had some superb sport this week on floating lines with diawl bachs, crunchers, gold ribbed hares ears, pheasant tail nymphs and claret hoppers from most areas of the reservoir. Perry Point, the Seat, Gaynes Cove, G bank and the Willows at the North End of the Dam have been the most consistent areas. Season ticket holder Roland Hudson from Offord has had a very good week bank fishing. On his four visits to Grafham Water Roland caught and released 23 trout by fishing a floating line with a mixture of small nymphs from the G bank and the Willows.

Brian Knight, who is also a season ticket holder living in Offord, caught the biggest trout of the week, a cracking over wintered Rainbow of 4lb 4oz. Brian took his fish from Gaynes Cove on a floating line with a red holographic diawl bach.

Boat anglers have also had a very good week’s fishing with most of the trout being caught around the margins of the reservoir. The main tactics for the boat anglers this week have been floating or sink tip lines with small nymphs, diawl bachs, crunchers, gold head hares ears and cormorants. The most productive areas for the boat anglers this week have been the Willows, G Buoy, the Seat and the lodge frontage. However, there have been a few good bags caught outin the middle of the reservoir but these have mainly come to trolling with di7 or 5 lines with gold and silver tubes.

Best Rainbow 4lb 4oz taken by Brian Knight of Offord

Best boat areas The Seat, G Buoy, lodge frontage, north dam, Willows.

Best bank areas Willows, the Seat, G buoy, Plummer Park/Gaynes Cove, south dam, Perry Point.

Mid week boat winner J Adams of Southampton.
Due to the confirmed presence of Dikerogammarus villosus at Grafham Water additional bio-security measures are now in place to ensure the shrimp is contained on site. This means that anglers need to follow new rules when fishing at Grafham Water.
        New Rules at Grafham Water:
        Bank anglers
        • On arrival at Grafham Water you must register that you are bank fishing at the tackle shop by phone or in person (01480 810531).
        • When the tackle shop is closed with the Duty Warden on 07801 674683.
        • Before departing you must return to the fishing lodge bio-security point so that all of your equipment (waders, line tray, net, bass bag, etc.) can be hosed down.
        • Duty Warden will then sign you off as able to leave site.
        • No bank fishing before 08.00.
        • Bank anglers to be back at the lodge by the boat in time (to allow washing off before dark).
        • When boats are off the water this season, anglers will be advised of the time to be back.

        Boat anglers
        • You will automatically be registered at the fishing lodge when collecting your boat number.
        • Drogues and nets will be provided and you must not use your own.
        • On return to the pontoon you will be directed to the bio-security point so that the remainder of your equipment (boots, bass bag, etc.) can be hosed down.
        • Duty warden will then sign you off as able to leave site.
        • Pike anglers
Pike anglers must use the landing nets and anchors provided at the fishing lodge and may not use their own equipment.

We apologize for the inconvenience and shortened bank fishing time, but are sure anglers will understand the seriousness of this situation, and the need to take these steps to allow fishing to continue.
As always your co-operation is very much appreciated.
