TF_geepsterParticipantHow about Madisson du Berlais for an outsider at 50-1? Didn’t it beat Kauto Star once?

TF_caster robParticipantThis thread should be labelled O/T and is in contravention of site rules, so should be locked/deleted/moderated/censored, at the very least!

TF_KatarinoI posted this on another correctly labelled O/T thread last night. 😉
How many horses have won carrying more than 11 stone in the last 20 years? Answer 3 and the most any have carried was 11-3 (Hedgehunter and he was 3rd in the following years Gold Cup).
Treat last year as a blip and stick to the rules:
Bin the 7-y-o
Bin the French Breds
Bin everything with more than 11 Stone
Bin the Dodgy Jumpers
Bin anything that has won more than twice in its’ last 8 runs (handicapper has hold of them).
Bin anything that hasn’t been placed in a decent quality race over at least 3 and a half miles in the last 2 years. You’ll end up with:
Big Fella Thanks
Snowy Morning
King Johns Castle
Arbor SupremePersonally I think it’s between the first and the last.

TF_caster robParticipantI’d go for Arbor Supreme from your list Roy, but flying in the face of convention I’ll have a little E/W on Cloudy Lane. Looks the type and is decent value.
I think the Aintree Hurdle should suit Zaynar.

TF_KatarinoSo do I Rob, word is Ruby was worried about upsetting PN and Harry.
I can’t figure out why AP isn’t on Arbor Supreme but in a way I’m glad. Some get round there and some don’t and he’s a don’t.
Look at Carberrys’ record to APs’, remember the song “Act a bit barmy and become a lunatic….” Carberry is a loony but he gets them round and I always watch when he rides one for Uncle Arthur (and he’s on one tomorrow!)

TF_GaryKing John’s Castle fits the bill for me. It is 40-1 and I have seen two other people mention it as a decent e/w bet, so I am going to stick my token £2 each way on this one!
-
09/04/2010 at 9:35 am #101578
TF_GaryI should add that I know absolutely NOTHING about horse racing (except that the first one that crosses the line with a jockey still on its back generally wins).

09/04/2010 at 10:26 am #101585
tunnel topperi’m going for one that is lightly raced and never fell, goes on any going stays beyond 4 miles, trainer in good form, is generally available at 66/1
FLINTOFF ~clap
main worry is it has pulled up too many times.~think

TF_Mick FordhamKev34 in 2007 Graphic Approach died, no horses died in 2004 & 2005 (don’t the years fly by).
1 horse has died each year from 2006 to 2009. 7 in total during the noughties
Like dodge said sadly that is the nature of the race (and agree with you all about PaulBrice58).
On wikipedia it states that 80 horses and 1 rider (in 1862) have died since it started in 1839. Most common cause broken legs or shoulders.

More get killed in their boxes, on gallops, out in fields for the summer, the National is no more dangerous than any other race these days. They are fantastic, delicate but mostly mad creatures. My mate lost the best he ever had in a freak accident on gallops when she bolted, it happens. The rest of the time they are amongst the best trated animals on earth and anyone who’s been to a Lambourn open day will see that most people in racing love the horses…. so spare us the sanctimonious carp (sp)

TF_DodgeI lost on “The Package” again after it was beaten at cheltenham on the line 3 weeks ago. Dont think the commentary on bbc did it any favours at all but never mind. They went off on the first circuit way too fast ….. graham lee had the horse towards the back jumping well staying out of trouble , it made progress after the chair and was getting into the race just 6 or so lengths behind the eventual winner when it seemed to be hampered by the jockey unseating off Madison du Berlais at the 18th fence ~think Never mind, great race and really pleased for AP ….. best horse won as always ~clap ~clap
and all horses returned safe and well ! nice one ~clap

shaggaWell, that was a waste of money! £10 ew on a horse that couldn’t be arsed to run (King John’s Castle) and £30 on Arbour Supreme who fell so early I missed it! I should stick to playing poker! And I’ll know better in future than to follow tips on here 😉
-
11/04/2010 at 9:30 am #101800
alfiemarleyParticipantAs a matter of interest were any horses killed,I don’t want to go on about the rights and wrongs of it, just curious as I missed the news last night.
