wight matchman“Hurray for common sense at last for an excellent lake full of fish”
MY ARSE
All Gunville is full up with now is poxy Pike, I am afraid that the esteemed comittee of the IWFAA are gradually F*****G up a fantastic lake by continually turning a blind eye to this problem. -
05/12/2007 at 2:04 pm #69000
willy1975I think you are a bit harsh Wight Matchman (whoever you are), the comittee have been doing a lot of essential work this year at Merstone, Somerton, and now Gunville which frankly needed doing before someone got injured. Yes the pike are a big problem, but hopefully now all the repair work has been carried out it can be addressed.
-
05/12/2007 at 2:46 pm #69001
wight matchmanHARSH willy the truth always is. Lets face it the comittee only does what it wants and is not interested in the memberships comments. This years AGM was farcical as was the attendance, plus the fact the pike problem was not discussed nor was it allowed to be. The only comittee member with a bit of sense is the match secretary who happens to be a bloody nice bloke too.
-
05/12/2007 at 3:03 pm #69002
willy1975I would be very careful making comments like that.
-
05/12/2007 at 3:05 pm #69003
willy1975If you can do better perhaps you should consider taking a post

TF_wightanglerthe work being done was very necessary as the place last year resembled a quagmire, if someone had slipped , there could have been either an accident or a law suit as a result, likewise the resevoir at somerton needed fixing to avoid flooding the nearby medical center. both the chairman and the match sec and a another commitee member have got off their arses and worked hard in adverse conditions to get the lake fishable and accessable, the vegatation will regrow by the spring, and there is an ongoing programme of maintenance including planting and providing cover for juvenile fish in hand- but of course this is not immediately noticeable since obviously the essential work had to be carried out first. I think when you have to consider all the issues that you will aggree that both john and the chairman have acted in the clubs best intesrest and interrim future.

TF_wightanglerre-the pike, i have no problem with them, they have always been present and reflect the size and quantity of silverfish, they can be a nuisance but if you weigh them in,then they are a bonus fish like tench. wightmatchman, at first i was seriously disgruntled at somerton, but when the extent of the problems were explained to me, i realise my misgivings were to a large degree wrong.
-
05/12/2007 at 3:30 pm #69006
TF_wightanglerwe have to be a conservation minded body, and whilst, a match angler , i was uo there a few weeks ago and there were 3 pike anglers fishing , we have to be a broad church, not that i’m at all religeous, seriously , things will get better for all of us, i know communication and frustration can sometimes be a problem but we must stick together-and see the results over time.

Would you like to reveal yourself, click on my username and email me
Failing that you can be president of my fan club lol. -
06/12/2007 at 9:03 am #69008
wightstar666WIGHT matchman Thank you for your comments you can not have been a member very long or you would know that gunville has been unfishable on the car park side for many years. Now when we have completed this present project all members will bw able to fish the whole lake all year round. If that is not an improvement ! What planet do U come from?
-
06/12/2007 at 9:38 am #69009
wightstar666Wight matchman your comment on last years AGM the meeting does have an agenda to which you may submit ideas problems to the secretary before January then any matter can be brought up on the night. The committee have been led into making snap decisions on an AGM without any fore thought all because a member in any other business received a majority vote.

TF_Wightmanwight matchman
I am close to revealing your identity.
email me very soon to prevent public exposure.
By using the same methods as our chairmans great uncle Sherlock
I will deduce who you are.
First of all your choice of username suggests that you fancy yourself as a top rod , you are probably one of the mugs heading to Gunville on Sunday. OR maybe not, as your inability to deal with a pike in your swim coupled with the bad weather forecast may put you off,
You could be a moaning old git.
Second , your use of phrases from (royal family) “my arse” and (harry enfield) “a bloody nice bloke”,
suggests a certain sense of humour, this narrows the options considerably.
third , the sarcastic and derisory manner in which you mention your esteemed comittee would probably mean,
that either you were a former comittee member bearing a grudge against the new proggressive regime. or a wannabe who is bitter at not being asked .
I have now, by a process of elimination , narrowed the options to one of 3 possibles, a knowledge of who has access to a pc amongst our match fraternity was invaluable in this deduction.
However, I have not totally discounted the possibility that you could be from a jealous rival club with the intention to stir the sh!t.
anyhow , time is running out my friend, call me now , you know it makes sense.
As to a couple of your highly intelligent comments
“gradually F*****G up a fantastic lake by continually turning a blind eye to this problem.”
answer
There is nothing gradually happening on our waters these days. we are steaming into the backlog of required work.
“continually turning a blind eye to this problem.”
answer
nobody is turning a blind eye my friend, the problem is for every 10 members that want the pike culling there are just as many against , this is where your esteemed comittee have to make a balanced decision.
“the comittee only does what it wants and is not interested in the memberships comments.”
Wrong again, you are not doing very well are you.
I swear that if I had a quid for every time I have told ” A moaning person ” to put it in writing and send to the comittee it would be discussed, I wouldn`t need to work.
but in the absence of all these letters, we will continue addressing the many and varied issues currently on the table .
“This years AGM was farcical as was the attendance”
answer
I totally agree, a mainland club with a membership the size of ours would have the AGM venue packed to the rafters. So what do you suggest.
Buffet? Tried it,,, Disco after? tried it,,,Presentation of Trophies? that was abandoned also due to difficulties in collecting and cleaning the things. Pep up the Agenda maybe to 3 round boxing match to decide the next match Secretaries position ?
“The only comittee member with a bit of sense is the match secretary who happens to be a bloody nice bloke too”
Answer
Absolutely spot on there mate, except he is not a comittee member, he is an “officer And a Gentleman.”
I hope I have managed to unravel some of the apparent mysteries and myths surrounding the thankless world of comittee life .
and look forward to unmasking you very soon . -
06/12/2007 at 4:30 pm #69011
TF_rive tI think we all now know what Wight Matchman is on about,I have read all of the committee comments, what a pompous lot of twats. Do you stand around patting each other on the back. If you do not like critism, then theres a simple solution. Stand Down
-
06/12/2007 at 5:01 pm #69012
TF_WightmanRivet
fair critism is essential where called for, total crap and exageration is not.
but I think you are missing the point here. this has been up to now a thread between local anglers who all know each other except wight matchman and my post was wrote tongue in cheek for a laugh , as we all have been trying to guess who he is. couldn`t help throwing a few facts in though. -
06/12/2007 at 7:33 pm #69013
wight matchmanrive t it is like that mate unfortunatly the comittee is made up of older people who are stuck in there ways. Therefore all the work being carried out now is long overdue and takes twice as long, and costs twice as much money. We are quite a wealthy club but our officers hate spending money they would rather hold on to it. Mr Millington sir you have been a breath of fresh air to the club since you got involved. I do have one suggestion if your chairman needs a bit of guidance get him to meet up with Mr Wood.
-
06/12/2007 at 8:09 pm #69014
wightstar666Wight matchman whats your problem
and who is Mr Wood sounds a bit creaky to me. I think its put up or shut up. Lots of money is being wisley spent improving our waters including Health and Safety grounds for all our anglers. So who do you think you are afraid to name yourself. At least we stand up to be counted. -
06/12/2007 at 8:17 pm #69015
willy1975“Pep up the Agenda maybe to 3 round boxing match to decide the next match Secretaries position ?” LOL nearly happend last year!

-
07/12/2007 at 4:29 pm #69024
TF_Wightmandont forget pellet wagg ( for those that can ).
Just a thought peter if you stayed an extra day , Jonesy could take you to Somerton Res` it`s like a mini Drayton ,10lb hooklengths required , 5-18lb carp and lots of em, you cant put your rod down if they`re having it. -
07/12/2007 at 8:25 pm #69025
wightheronwightman looks as though wight matchman has crawled away back to his hole/lair to reappear later with more goodtiding for our committee. what!! a person who plays with himself.
-
07/12/2007 at 8:59 pm #69026
TF_Wightmanlooks like it wightheron,
still he got a few men of the wight posting on the site. -
08/12/2007 at 12:22 am #69027
willy1975“Jonesy could take you to Somerton Res` it`s like a mini Drayton” You have got to be having a laugh John, comparing Somerton to Drayton is like comparing Beirut to Kensington lol. Unless Pete wants a net full of parrot beaks!
-
08/12/2007 at 12:35 am #69028
willy1975Hope the match is sometime during March we could call it the Cattani / Wightman testimonial match lol 😉
-
08/12/2007 at 12:57 am #69029
TF_rive tMust have had a phone round of friends to back there little conspiracy. Typical of a small time committee,
-
08/12/2007 at 6:05 am #69030
TF_Wightmanwilli, my comparison of somerton to Drayton was with regard to the huge nets of large hard fighting carp caught earlier in the year on pellet wag, or have you forgotten the 146lb you had for 4th place on a wet + windy night in August.
and matey while I am trying to promote the fishing on the Island to the TF`rs,
statements like“Unless Pete wants a net full of parrot beaks!”
is a bit counter productive, and exagerated, imo. -
08/12/2007 at 6:48 am #69031
TF_Wightmanrivet, the only phoning round that has occurred re this thread , is people trying to guess who “wight matchman” could be. Because, when somebody is hiding behind a username , “not unlike yourself” makes wild incorrect and personal remarks about our club and waters, it is human nature to be curious as to who it is. Now I haven`t got a problem with “wight matchman” that couldn`t be sorted over a pint and a chat . but your 2 posts on this mostly local topic suggest you are cynical and bitter about life in general. And possibly not many friends to phone round , come to some TF do`s and make some , I have , and I dont think any of them would describe me as a Pompous twat ( to use your words).
runs for cover expecting alterntive character descriptions from Jaap

08/12/2007 at 9:07 am #69036
wightheronI am new to this Tft site and I am amazed at how stupid a few are, any organization that has 500 members owns 3 sites of approx 20 acre’s
with 5 lakes is not a job running it that many could cope with. When rivet suggest stand down, he belongs banged into 2 metal plates. He certainly does not understand running an excellent organization like I believe the IWFAA is and the amount of hard work involved to maintain it. All this information I read off the IWFAA web site.Tell me rivet are you a member or just a person lost his way like wightmatchman. I think the whole committee deserve support from its membership not run down a every opportunity. Well done the committee. A well wisher. -
08/12/2007 at 9:31 am #69037
wightstar666wightheron I am on the committee and belive U are on the ball. Thank you as a well wisher reading some of the comments sensible words are much needed at this time.
-
08/12/2007 at 10:18 am #69038
heynipperfishingParticipantWell what can i say? rivet you need to lose those blinkers your wearing and take a good look around the association waters at the work that has been done to improve the clubs waters.I suggest you contact the chairman or the sec and ask if you can sit in on a meeting so we can show you what goes on and shine a bit of light on your little dark sheltered world if you have the balls!!

TF_Billy no FishParticipantTa Da!
I am here for the Faithful!
Where’s Wightangler when you need him. 10 or 20 pages of his prolific prose will sort out wight matchangler.
I for one think the Committee (C is capitalised for effect and respect) is doing a fantastic job. How do i know this? They told me and i believe them.
I am sure the pike problem can be sorted with some judicious counselling. They are, after all the hoodies of the fish world. Talk to them, understand their needs and they will come round…

TF_wightanglerAs an islander and member of both the IWFAA and Newchurch PDAS clubs – both of which are excellently and professionally run and which endeavour to look after both their members and with committment to Island angling ,coupled with regard to the wider issues affecting us and the maintenance of waters and conservation action and the enviroment, Like me, I am sure that you will be happy to learn that misunderstandings that had occurred between the IWFAA and the RSPB have been successfully resolved and both anglers and birders can work together for the benefit of conservation and the wider enviroment from which we derive our sport and must be pro-active as custodians of those waterside ecosystems. Thanks and respect must be given to Mark Lloyd (ACA), and Martin Salter(MP, Reading West) for their personal endeavours and much appreciated work as well as the officers of both the IWFAA and the RSPB. Once again reunited we can go forwrd together and i hope that joint iniatives to the Islands benefit will continue and evolve.
Thanks must go to many individuals and organizations, for their support and efforts and i would like to thank the commitee and members of Newchurch PDAS for their solidarity and the many individuals, both anglers and non-anglers and RSPB local members for their help and concern for this reaffirmation, thanks are also due to good officers and iniaives of the EA, also Andrew Turner(MP), Alan Suttie (NUBA)and the leadership of the NFA for their valued assistance as well as a thank you to T/Fers and the editors and journalists of the angling and local press. Cheers and respect to you all. Finally a big thank you to my friend Wightman, matchsecretary of the IWFAA who, voluntarily, has had a lot of unseen hardwork, many sleepless nights, late night phone calls and unhealthy travels to ensure aggreement and who deserves a big thank you for his successful efforts.

TF_wightanglermay i congratulate you for remaining loyal to the match section and your support duly noted , given current uncertainty over whether this section should be kept, if it goes i vote that islanders declare unilateral independence until firm offers of support or mere trifling cash incentives are forthcoming.
