BigbassmanParticipantHey guys,
looking forward to my first visit to this water next week where I will be fishing a couple of matches.
Any advice on baits, rigs and feeding would be much appreciated as I believe the lake contains everything from gudgeon to carp.
Priority is a section win but assuming sections are fairly spread will I have to include carp in my bag or are there enough skimmers to compete?
I have read the many interesting and informative posts on Mawgan Porth and if anybody knows the recent weights that would also be handy.
Thankin you in advance

TF_fred van den feederto win at gwinear you need carp. before it use to be alot of skimmers but now its more or less carp but maby you can get some skimmers at some areas. maby the skimmers are still there, last time i was there was last summer.
have fished Mawgan Porth and if you ask me its like bleak fishing… boring… but it seems like its a popular venue at the moment.
for results, check

BigbassmanParticipantMany thanks Fred
Just checked those results out and the weights at Mawgan are unreal! Bit different to the 30lb winning bags we get in the NW lol.
Does anybody know the average size of the carp in Gwinear and are there any bait bans?

BigbassmanParticipantCheers Peter
As usual I have left it to the last minute so dont think I will be able to get a copy, but if anybody is kind enough to grace me with a few snippets of info it would be appreciated.

TF_spotter1707I read it & seem to remember him having top 2’s with blobs as indicators.
I think you have to net every fish, although they are not very big, & they are all at your feet! -

maggot_drownerGwinear is mainly hard pellets (8mm) for the Carp, no meat at all allowed. Plumb round and try to find a bar to fish on, there is usually one in most of the swims. Also have a chat with the regulars when you get there, they were very helpful to me this year…. even managed to get an envelope and I’m a noddy!
As for MP, fished it for the first and last time this year. Not my idea of fishing but if you want a good weight that’s your place. Fish a top kit in the grass or next to your keepnet in front of you. Fish average about a pound or so but it’s non stop from the whistle, my mate lost a match there earlier this year ‘cos he needed a slash mid match!

TF_orexinaMorgan porth: Make up a number one as its easier than having half the top 2 behind you. Make up a few identical rigs as you trash a few. 4 X 12 floats, size 20 hooks, 01 bottoms. Try this on the inside tight. Also set up a rig for 3 mts. Try this with chopped worm later in the match when it goes off a bit.
Guinear. You got to draw but weights last week were from up in the water 12inches deep 14mts. Banded 4mm and 6mm pellet. Change in weather may put them deeper.
Fish down the inside for the lumps over the ledge. Try against any feature. Try and fdraw peg 36 its a doddle of a peg. Paste worked for some. -

BigbassmanParticipantHey guys, just a quick note to say thanks for the info on MP and Gwinear. Came third overall in the weeks festival (13 of us).
Did my first match ton WOO-HOO with 112lb at MP on a very hard day (by MP standards) which won me the match. Our top weight from there was 253lb!
Overall a great week and cant wait till next year when hopefully there will be a few more of us.
The only negative thing I have to comment on was the service and entertainment which justifies the other comments on Total Fishing. The service levels at WA are pretty appauling considering its a holiday park and the entertainment is very basic. If it was not for the fishing on the park and the local area I would certainly not use WA again.

maggot_drownerWell done on the ton up!
As for the W/A comments I found the bar staff and the staff at the first bite were brilliant, always up for a chat and a laugh. More than can be said for the cheerful people in the tackle shop! :o(

TF_folk in hailI was there a few weeks back, and go several times a year. The tackle shop are always a cheerful bunch, the exception being Ben who always seems to buck the trend and offer helpful advice, and realise that as a customer, you should be spoken to, rather than grunted at.
Entertainment is a shambles, but like so many other things there, they look to provide the absolute basics at the lowest possible cost.
With so many vans being sold, and owners being tied into costly annual charges, they reduce their exposure to holidaymakers choosing to go elsewhere in search of better facilities.
Like so many, I love the fishing, and the experience, otherwise I’d go elsewhere too.

maggot_drownerYep, to be fair, I’ve spoke to Ben a couple of times and he’s usually pretty helpful.
