From our sea correspondent in the north east Sam Harris:

An unusual species – certainly from the shore – was taken off South Shields pier. Ian Ingleson landed a Halibut of 3 lb 10 oz. This is the first shore caught Halibut that I have heard of from the North East Coast. Three were taken two years ago from boats fishing three miles out from Souter Point. I landed the first one – a fish of 7 lb 10 oz. A couple of days later one of about 9 lbs was taken and a week after that another was landed – I think of about 11 lb 7 oz. All three came from the same area and were taken on mackerel strip.

        Tight lines
        Sam
