hampton springs – long island

hi lads got a match on here at the weekend. any tips, best baits and methods would be much appreciated! cheers

My my advice is fish to your strengths , meat , pellet and corn can all do the biz, the wind plays a major factor. The 6 m line ia a good starter on all pegs , pegs 28 and 18 being tip pegs . 14 , 10 , 49 being my fav pegs.100 pound possible. I would be using 0.16 line to a b911 16`s , as the norm feed little and often.

The key to big weights on most of Hampton Springs lakes in matches, including Long island is to feed loads of hemp especially in the margins! Start at 6 meters as suggested but feed your margins with a catty or by hand very regularly with plenty of hemp plus either meat or corn. I would not pot bait in the margins as i want to make a big noise and spread the feed a little. Catch what you can at 6 meters until the carp turn up in the margins. Then, its bag up time! I would not go anywhere near Hampton Springs without at least 4 pints of hemp and plenty of meat or corn. There are a lot of lumps in Long island and they normally feed close in at the bottom of the shelf and in particular in the margins.
