As nobody seems to be helping you,

I have not fished Gills for a while .

I would use caster and worm on the far bank , possibly down the track as well and maybe corn in the margins.

Also , do not dismiss bread on the far bank , and even caster shallow IF it warms up a bit.

Hope this helps , but as i said , not fished the place this year yet.

Havng fished it for many years and watching the site experts like : Rob Wootton,Sean Huggins,Bob Greenbury,Brad Titmus and Stu Dalby,Keith,Wilf,John and Matt Hall,Gaz Sadler, i think this is the best approach:

Small method feeder to the island (every peg has a chuck to the centre island approx 20 metres, some depths are a 1′-2′ deep. Fish pole at 16m with wind allowing you to do so and find the far shelf going up. On calmer days use a small waggler about 2gram.
There are chub upto a 1.5lb in there plus the skimmers are the same size so target them if the weather remains cool but when the water warms then the carp will show well . The margins are always good in the last hour.
Bait : Pellet, corn, paste (when its warmer) and meat, maggots also for the chub and bream.
On the deck at 16m is about 6′, noted pegs are :1 ,9,10,18,19,20,39,40 but it can be won from any peg on its day.
Some matches have seen the guys empty 10 tins of corn when the carp feed.

Just realised it was Gils you were fishing and i gave the info for Trotters…sorry !
Even better lake and more even…..All pegs average 14 metres across some are a little less and some are just 16 mtrs.
More species to fish for with a very good head of Crucians/brown fantail goldfish worth targeting on the soft pellet.
The carp will always live close to the far side so be prepared to loose the odd rig as the carp have got alot bigger. There are other species but they will never win matches so target the carp in the margin ,far shelf, far margin.
When the water warms up then caster is always a good bait but if cooler weather then go with corn and small meat and pellet. You have to use the farms own feeder pellets but you can put what you want on the hook.
Try paste margin and far shelf when there is some warmth in the water.Fish dead depth and dot float on margin and far shelf when fishing corn and meat . But caster at half-depth and small meat in the far side reeds is also deadly on its day.
