Hollywood lake Messingham

Anyone got any info on this lake? Got a match next Sunday and ain’t got a clue as to methods, depths etc. Any help greatly appreciated

Wind is usually pushing down to low numbers so it’s here where the bigger weights show.
If it’s warm they tend to be up and across so it’s a wag job with bomb as backup. Method is not allowed but you can use free running feeder if you wish.
You can catch down the track deep or shallow depending upon where the fish want to be. The edge too produces but once again it’s down to conditions on the day.
In summary if it’s warm fish up and across with pellets, also down the edge.
If it’s cold fish the track and use small baits.

Method feeder is now allowed along with other fixed rigs, the ban is still in place on Merry`s though.

I occasionaly went with a friend there many years ago before I moved to not so sunny Manchester…..

Thanks guys, got third, beaten by two end pegs! Funny day, was stuffed with fish, could see them knocking my float out of the way to get past! Swear I could have put a saddle on a couple that swam past my keepnets! Said to the bloke next to me that if they decided to feed we were foo**ed!

So how did you fish it and how did the guys above you approach it?
I am on Swan Sunday for our last club match, fished it two weeks ago for 100lb plus and did not win!!
I should have mentioned that on our match on Hollywood one guy had a 17lb fish from the margins peg 2. This is a relatively young lake so clearly they are munching quite a bit of bait.

Hi John, was really weird! Had a drive up after breakfast to find it and loads of fish showing. Set up method, bomb, pellet wag and crystal wag, shallow pole and margins (and kitchen sink I know!) Started on method to start and fed other lines, had a couple of small carp and a skimmer then died a death Fish were showing on 14m line I had been feeding, had one about 5lb after 2min then they vanished, chucked wag to far bank, had one about 8lb then nothing! Kept on chopping and changing getting one fish then nothing. Tried margin with paste and had a few crucians and a small carp then a munter about 10 then nothing! With all the fish cruising I set up a mugging rig (never done it before) Every time I saw a fish, shipped/wound in, got mugging rig, shipped out, bloody vanished! A couple of the lads caught some dangling bait in front of fish swimming past. End pegs managed to get 3 or 4 fish in a row (probably cos of rushes and weed cover) Said to bloke next to me that if the fish decided to eat we would be knackered! Never seen so many quality fish. There were some low weights (below 10lb) 56 won 55 second I had 45, don’t think I could have had any more apart from fishing mag down the edge for bits, but hard to do when you see double figure fish everywhere!

Clearly the fish are starting to switch to winter mode, I am finding carp are less likely to take pellets now, and if they do they seem to go for smaller ones.
Maggot seems to be the bait for me just now. As for rotation I have found this year that I have had to do this a lot. You just cannot catch long on one line you have to chop and change to keep them coming.
I briefly held the lake record on Hollywood, 180lb 2 years ago and it was the easiest match ever, pellet wag all day and the float just kept going under. Its not been like that this year they seem to have wised up and to be honest the weather has just not been settled long enough.
Well done on the third place its a great lake on a superb fishery.

Yes it’s a great place, reminded me of lake 1 at the Glebe! Could only get bites on the 6mm pellet! Had a few on dead reds on the method, not a touch on pellet! It has been a funny year, felt I have had to work a lot harder for each fish, where the people who just keep plodding on doing what they always do have really struggled this year

Had a small clubbie on Swan yesterday and it was just the same. After a cold night I started short in about 6 foot of water and had 30 lb in the first hour, I then foul hooked a couple and it died. I came into the edge thinking they did not want to sit so deep but it was perch only but some real biggies up to 2lb! After a quick burst that died too so I went long on the wag as a few were showing but once again just 3 fish after a lot of hard work feeding and casting and that died too. I noted the fish just gradually drifted away from the feed so maybe I just overdid it. I was only feeding 6mm about 4 every 30 seconds.
Tried the bomb and nothing doing so fished shallow at 14m and snared a few there so continued to alternate with edge and shallow. Finished with 87lb, the carp never really turned up down the side which is unusual I continually fed the 6 foot line but the carp did not come back on it.
Sort of sums up the season for me, rotation and correct feeding are the key to weight building now as well as being on the right bait. To improve I think the feeding needs refining, I probably overdo it.
In total I used about 4 pints of 6mm, a few worms, 2kg of ground bait and a pint of dead reds.

I woz on swan pond opposite bank to you I won mine with 90 lb I fished different with 11 mm hard pellet on bomb n wag but as you say a found you could catch a few then they would go no fish would stay in the swim for long before you had to rest it to bring them back in I was on peg 42 is this a gud peg that wins all the time or was it I did something right for once

Oh ok I was a diff match opposite us then do you no what pegs usually win on main swan pond we had 34-45

Your pegs were around the bay, the usual best pegs are the high numbers facing the golf club.Not sure of numbers but I know low 50s are around the corner in the main body of the lake so guessing 42 to 49 area.
