TF_MatchcarpI’m always looking for good hooklength material, something that mic’s up well and is strong and reliable – I only fish commercials so the hooklengths I use mostly are 0.12, 0.14, 0.16.
I see quite a few lines that claim certain diameters but when you put them under the micrometer they are out by loads.
What do you use and why?
I’m asking without saying what I use at this stage π -

TF_sam the manSilstar WB Clark used it years. Not found any better. π

TF_iansi01354What’s wrong with 0.13, 0.15, 0.17 π
I am using Shimano Antares, found it knots well, is quite supple and doesn’t kink………it’s not bang on when mic’d up but then an awful lot aren’t and those that do tend not to have the same knot strength so its a bit immaterial imo.
What’s wrong with what your using now……why the need to change…….I believe a lot of terminal tackle choice, hooks, elastic etc is about confidence.

TF_MatchcarpYeah if you mic Silstar it changes diameter every 25mm
So that’s definitely off the list.
I’m quite into fluro carbo lines and currently use “Falcon Prestige” I like it a lot but you can’t get it in the UK.
I see Nick Gilbert is selling some stuff which I was thinking of trying but was also hoping for some +ve feedback on this stuff.
N-Gauge is another candidate and I’m sure there are lots of good stuff, I don’t like change but would like something I can get here in the UK  -

AnonymousFor big fish after 2.30pm i use daiwa matchwinner 0.20mm,
During the early part of the match i use preston powerline 0.15 to 0.13 bottom.
Ive hardly been let down by either…
I do think that its very important to pair your lines up correctly with elastics,if you dont, you may be getting broke or hook pulls -

TF_MatchcarpTubertini Hercules – That’s a blast from the past, not seen it in years but yeah what you know and trust can’t fault you.
I have just ordered some of Nick Gilberts stuff “Fortex” – On his website he says he uses it for all his rigs and hook lengths and states “you wont be disappointed” so I have decided to take him up on it – I fish lindholme where you catch a lot of fish (but not as many as most others  ) so hooklengths have to perform for long periods then I fish hayfield and woodlands where big fish are the target so need reliable hooklength there too – I’ll report back my findings godd bad or indifferent. -

TF_MatchcarpAs promised just thought I would update you on the products I have bought and tried from Nick Gilbert i.e. Fortex line and twin core hollow elastic.
I only bought the 2.4 grade yellow elastic for use at Woodlands Thirsk and Hayfield both big fish waters – Very impressed with it’s performance, very forgiving smooth elastic perfect for picking off quality carp when not in bagging mode so that said I have ordered the 2.6 red today just to give a little more power when (if Iβm lucky) the fish are in my margins and having a proper chew toward the end of the match and I can get them out that bit quicker in the knowledge there is another one there waiting to be caught – So yeah a big thumbs up from me, next stage is to see how long it last before needing changed but looking at it I donβt think it will be anytime soon?
The Fortex I bought in 0.104 – 0.128 and 0.148, I checked the diameters on a digital micrometer (I know but that’s just me) and found them to be very accurate. I haven’t got around to using the 0.104 yet but I have had carping sessions on the other two and both performed great and after a few fish (some into double figures) I was soon full of confidence in the stuff – Nick quotes you won’t be disappointed and he was right Iβm not. Quality gear at sensible prices so he will be getting more of my business. -

TF_paulnewellWhen I get some free stuff I get excited . A rep gave me a spool of Colmic 5000 ! Only seen it in o.10 and thicker . Possibly best ever used . Garry Booth from Bham reps for Colmic . Not used it for carp but the O.10 tied up great , seemed beautifully round , nice bit of stretch . Would love to test all sizes π π π Made in Japan for the Italians . Used by Jacapo Falsini the Italian international . Highly recommended … π π π
