TF_Rob AHi fished a river match yesterday evening and lost a number of skimmers off the hook which could have cost me the match(fortunately is didn’t but was close!).
I’ve been using B520’s in 16 and 14.
Just wondering if anyone had ideas of a different/better hook for this situation I’ve been told the Tubertini 808’s are good for this but have never used them. Are the 808’s barbless? I would prefer a barbed/microbarbed hook.
Cheers
Rob

TF_slipperyThe 808s are barbless, but they do a series 26,which is the same as the 808,but it has a barb. For me the best bream/skimmer hook is the Trabucco Nexen series 210,which is also barbed.Try polefloats.com.

TF_Simon PKamasan B711 barbed.
Very strong, light hook, Bronze in colour.
I use them alot at Porth (Cornwall) i know its not a river but the skimmers have very soft mouths BUT i dont loose many!!!

TF_MinoB560s are good but not if your fishing with braid as they are too “springy”. Perfect for the pole and waggler though.
If your fishing braid you can’t beat Trabucco Nexen series 100.
Or if your really bagging Tubertini Series 10.

TF_GaryI used to use the Kamasan B560 for fishing pellet shallow for carp. They are seriously strong hooks. They also have big eyes, so you can get 0.20 through a size 16 twice for a knotless knot. Not sure that this is particularly relevant to your skimmer fishing though, I’m afraid!

TF_squattb560 are not eyed and are not seriously strong. Try again gary. Scotthorne bream feeder hooks are good though.

TF_Rob ACheers all, plenty of options then! I’m going to give the B560 a go first as I do have faith in kamasan hooks (despite my problems with the b520 on the feeder, though it sounds like I was using the wrong hook for the job!)and they sell em in my local shop! I’ll see how they go and if I’m not happy try another of the suggestions!!
Thanks again.

TF_Yare RodI used to use 560’s without any problems, until last year. I’m not sure if there was a rouge batch but i lost no end of fish with the hook springing or straightening whilst unhooking fish. I have now switched to PR344’s, and the only problem I have is with supply. They are also a very small hook, i used to fish a 14’s 560 I now fish 10/12 in the 344.

TF_Yare RodSteve, I think 2oz leads on a tidal pushes these hooks to the limit. Are you getting in some practice for the Yare 🙂

TF_carpmagicParticipantNot quite! Been going ferry meadows pleasuring. Weed isnt too bad there at moment and there are some cracking Bream to be caught.

TF_Waveney OneWell done on your 30lb and 4th today Simon. Where were you mate and do you know how many fished? I had 3 fish for about 2 1/2lb in the first few few minutes whilst the line was tightening up ad after that it was downhill all the way. I tried a 6 foot tail, a very short one, going down to a 16’s and went through worm, maggot, corn and casters on the hook together with variations thereof and only had the 2 hybrid, 2 skimmers and a few roach, eels, a dace and some tiny perch for 7lb 8oz. Mind you Robert Hubbard was only 2 pegs away and only weighed 6lb so there were not too many fish in the area.
