I was having a chat with a mate recently about losing kit and how far would you go to try and save it.
I was fishing Drayton about 10 years ago during the winter it was absolutely freezing we were on the dam wall and there were 3 guys fishing on the boards off the point.
It was slow nothing doing we were chatting looking around when noticed one of the guys running the few yards where he was to his rods.
With that he dived straight in fully clothed obviously trying to retrieve his rod that had been dragged in. The guy swam out about 15 yards when I assume the cold started to kick in he gave it up as a bad job returning to his swim empty handed. His mates managed to drag him out they laid him out then got him stripped off. They came round asking if anyone had any old clothing meanwhile he sat there in his boxers.
I wouldn’t normally laugh at someone’s misfortune but we did see the funny side but we had to agree there’s no way we would have gone in.

20+ years ago I went in after a top kit at woodlands fishery at thirsk.

This was in the days when there was only one lake. My mate asked me to take a pic of a ghosty he’d had and I just lay my rig in the edge. Pic taken, just as I got back to my peg (we were on an island) my top kit set off.

I did my best superman impression and managed to catch it.

In my defence, this was also in the days when you got not many top kits as spares (one or two top 2’s?), and I’d spent a fortune on my red titanium…

Also, it was before mobile phones, before electronic car keys, and it was nice any warm.

These days, I’d probably just swear a lot and go and buy a new one of whatever it was lol
