          Hi mate,

I live in Peterborough, and hunstanton is my local seaside resort. The sea fishing there is, generally, poor. But bait collection is a doddle, plenty of lug if you go for a walk on the beach and find the beds.

In winter there are whiting and flouder to be had, usually in small numbers. In summer bass and makerel to be had, but conditions must be right. Usually a dawn high tide, sunny, clear calm seas. There is a good tackle shop somewhere in sunny hunny that should be able to provide you info. The main problem with the wash is the influx of fresh water from the 4 rivers that drain into it. The less dense fresh water floats and floods onto the beaches.

If you fancy a boat trip in the summer, there’s one from brancaster that heads out for tope, bass and makky fishing. The wash is a very well reknown tope area, but the beaches are too shallow to catch them from shore.

Better fishing is normally to be had further round the coast, about 45 minutes drive, to the cromer and sheringham area. The shingle beachs of weybourne and salthouse through up makkies, bass and smoothounds in summer, whiting, dabs, flouder and odd condling in winter.

Try worldseafishing site for more info.

          Hope that’s of some help.

          Andy

Nick, not a sea angler myself but there are some good areas around Overstrand to Cley that I have seen good cod action on in winter and also plenty of summer action when walking up there as kids!! As wilding uk says it is generally where you get away from the mud flats to the more shingle form beaches!!!
