TF_Jon WFor pole fishing I use almost exclusivly 15cm hooklengths. It’s each to their own really mate.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI use 12″ hooklengths for everything I normally have my bulk set near the attaching loop then have a couple of droppers on the hooklength, I know this is wrong according to what you read but It suits me I just whip another hooklength out of the box and two no 12 droppers on it takes seconds.

TF_MarkTAll mine are 15cm, i’ve never needed to go any longer or shorter. The only time people tend to go shorter is for bloodworm and joker.

TF_Smedi do it exactly like anthony does 12 inch!, cant understand why anyone would use a 6 inch hooklength when the loop 2 loop would be allmost touching a feeding fish….
asking for a liner if u ask me….~think -

gonkParticipantyou have answered youre own question tie them to the lengh between the pins in ur hook box
-

TF_budangler14Participantgonk – that was basis of my question because the hookboxes come with centre strip of pins loose so you can glue them to whatever distance you please

MrFoxman6″ for all pole work other than shallow rigs which are 4″. My method hooklengths are also 4″.

I agree totaly when that F1 is looking for food do you really think that it look and thinks oooohhh theres a 6″ hook length you need your last dropper or bulk that close to your hook for a more possitve bite, as for hookboxs you carnt beat the preston ones….~naughty ~naughty

TF_Smedwhat im saying is, if there are a lot of fish in your swim with there heads down hard, feeding well, i wont have ANY shot or any loop for that matter down with them, i much prefer it to be out of the way of there fins, tails, gills etc
and as for a shot near the hook for a positive bite, well when my float goes under its a bite
~think
on my local a lot of anglers suffer badly with liners/foul hookers, and it can be a nightmare, i started to use longer hooklengths as a idea at first to see if i got less (you still do get some!) liners….
and so far so good so i have stuck with itseems to work well for me anyway, i won this sunday and lost 2 fish all match as the guys either side easily had enough fish on to beat me but lost loads! foul hookers from liners i reckon…
anyway each to there own……..~think ~think

TF_Smedoh and as for the loops i use the smallest sensas loop tier (best thing ive bought!)
its not so much the loop its the 2 knots that go with it that i reckon catch in the fins/gills etcjust my thoughts…

TF_MarkTI’m not saying your ways wrong mate it’s just i don’t think that knots, loops and short hooklengths contribute and cause more liners.

TF_Smedshep best bit of advice anyone could give you is tie up a few of each length and try em all out on a pleasure session, you will then start to prefer one size, then tie em all at that, its all down to confidence in a match situation, a few guys who have replied like 12 inch and a few like 6, maybe it doesnt matter? but like i said confidence in YOUR rig (not somebody else`s) is the key!

MrFoxmanI use 6″ hooklengths for PW fishing shep. When i tie up some more i will tie them up at 4″ though which i prefer for shallow work whether that’s on the pole or rod n line.
