TF_joffmiesterquestion
at the weekend we fished a league match on a canal the other side of Leicester and one section fish really hard now the conditions seamed to be OK but nine anglers blanked am sure the last two pegs caught and the first two caught so all the middle pegs blanked
NOW your not telling me there isn’t a fish in theses pegs and some of the anglers are top canal anglers OK you could say its winter canal fishing
but what i want to know is have any of you got any ideas or methods to entice a bite on a rock hard day surely some of you die hard northerns have a few ideas i just don’t want to draw the DNW peg ~sick ~sick
BY THE WAY ITS NO B/J ALLOWED ~sick -

TF_carpmagicParticipantIf there is any sort of feature in your swim, no matter how small it might seem then target it. There is often a small perch nearby and a tiny bit of worm can often do the job. When i say small features this can be something as insignificant as a couple of strands of long grass.

TF_baitchefParticipantIf the perch idea didnt work, you could always fish the same line and bait, but over a tiny nugget of dark groundbait for a Gobio Gobio.

TF_Mikey .J.Steve’s method is definately the one. Me and a mate once sat catching nothing on the canal for hours. My friend Kerry turned up, found some worms on the bank and used a tiny bit of one, constantly moving the worm and enticing little perch. I couldnt believe it lol.

AnonymousTry half a squatt over mulched up chopped squat fished hard against either bank or any feature as carpmagic says. Used to work well on the shroppy.

TF_GaryWhen people say to me that fishing is boring, I would have to agree with them, if this is what it was reduced to!

Lazy AlYour keepnet staked out is a feature,
the lads on the bridgey jig a piece of worm along it, or try the lob worm in the tights routine.Chopped lobworm in a small ball of your missus tights and fish a piece of worm at the side.
or if you are wearing them youself, rip a piece off, they have to be american tan though.~clap

TF_Mikey .J.Go fishing tomorrow, catch a roach or two and put them in a bait box. Sneak it into your keepnet when no one is watching. Simple.

TF_CraftytaftyI know Joffy, That’s why I don’t do it anymore. I spent many matches years ago sitting on the barren bits then getting a pat on the back for going back with good points for catching 2 gudgeon and a ruffe. It aint team fishing for me, it’s team freezing my nuts off bored sh*tless, but if that’s what you enjoy, great. not for me anymore though. I want to learn new things and try different aspects of fishing, tell you what though, what I learnt when I fished silverfish /team matches has helped me in my carp fishing and also If i knew then what I’ve learnt carp fishing I’d have caught a lot more silvers too

Anonymoussmall pieces of worm fished tight to margins either side (very often your own side) failing that chuck a weed rake/ice breaker in and stir the hell out of it or stick your longest landing net in and stir up the bottom or mix a cup of damp leam with water and push this under the surface and spin it around making a big cloud (get in on it quick before the cloud disappears).

TF_CraftytaftyOh I do, had loads of blanks and i come unstuck regularly cos i never fish negatively and i aint remotely interested in spending the £40 plus quid ( pools, bait and travel etc)it costs me to fish most matches to try and do anything else but win.( with the exception of Makins teams of 3, but i still fish the same way) I don’t win as much as some cos I aint the best angler in the world but I always try and win, it’s why I fish matches and I never fish to avoid a blank.

TF_bremesParticipantMany moons ago we used to fish frisby pits/asfordby/m-mowbray,many times when it was part frozen very cold etc,it was a real struggle to muster 2lb or quite often even less, there was one old feller who used to have 3 chucks with the feeder then sit it out with a lobby, the amount of times he framed was unreal,he would sometimes only have 2 chucks in 5hrs,it would bore me to tears but eh you could’nt fault him.
