TF_Stevie HI haven’t mate, but you can certainly tell the difference just by looking in my opinion.
I used to use powerline 0.19 but have changed over to 0.18 Gama Super G and the difference is very noticeable. I personally think powerline is far more than stated.

Nick DIts pretty good line but its way off its stated diametre.

TF_Ryani believe the dia stated on them is when it is just about to snap, so basically thats the diameter when fully stretched so it is quite a bit out.

TF_Stevie HMak,
I haven’t done any ‘proper’ tests to see if it breaks at what it says, but I have been using it for my paste fishing out here in Belgium recently and it hasn’t let me down.
I fish with it straight through at .18 to red hydro (Only half a length) and have had numerous carp over 20lb out. Tourney Pro loves it!!
I have been using Super G for a few years now mate from .06 up to .12 for hooklengths and rigs for my silvers fishing and have found it very good indeed. It seems a little expensive but is about normal price considering you get 150m per spool.

TF_JohnHTests were carried out by all of the mags a few years back. Powerline was typically understated on diameters by about 0.02. 015 for example was 017 and so on.
On breaking strain it was there or thereabouts.
The comment above re the reported diameters being those the line thins to before breaking may be the reason for them being wrong. However this was not typical across all lines tested.
I seem to recall Alex Bones carried out the tests which seemed to confirm the Shimano line as being amongst the best out there, at the time.
Not sure if anything has changed since, but my experience is that powerline is actually larger in diameter than stated based on tying Knotless nots on hooks with small eyes.
Trabucco elite was by far and away the worst reported I think the excuse was they tested in LB but printed the labels in KG. -

TF_MarkTI think it’s disgraceful how they can get away with it, i stopped using powerline for that reason.

Merce1I put a micrometer on Powerline a few years ago. As explained above by JohnH it was consistently understated, ie 0.15 on the label was nearer 0.17 in practice.

TF_JohnHI should add that I use the stuff and lots of anglers do. They are obviously aware of the miss information. The line is very durable so the stronger line is great for method hook lenghts. I know anglers who also use the 021 line for reel line on snag pits with lumps in.
My advice is buyer beware, do the work, find out the pros and cons and work around them.
Just like everything else really.
The one variant that does my head in is hook sizes. A 16 in some brand is like a 12 in others. -

TF_justin caseDoes it really matter ? surely confidence is the key and if your confident with a product why change.
.17 and .19 which are probably really .19 and .21 are not exactly lines you would be using whilst sitting on the cut trying to buy a bite,
I just down size and never really had a problem with the stuff, It might be a little stiff on the bigger sizes though and when fishing extremly tight to the float it can move the float about
Anyone used the new line they have produced the Exceed thats supposed to be a lot nearer the mark diameter and BS wise
