      tunnel topper

with 2 laptops in the house and 1 cable connections, a wireless router was purchased to help reduce conflict.
problem – we cannot get any internet on either laptop.
instructions say that a dongle is needed {sold separately}, but as our laptops are WLAN activated was told that we do not need them.

can any of you nice people let me know if we do need dongles or offer any help.

        thanx

you may need to add the MAC address of you laptop wireles card into the config of your router. And if you have security setup on the router you will need to enter the routers security code (WEP key)

What make of router have you got?

Do your laptops see the router, you can tell this by looking in the bottom right hand corner by the clock (XP don’t know about Windows 7 or Vista)If you can see a picture of a computer screen with radio waves coming from it right click on it and choose “view available wireless networks” if you can see your router click on it and then click connect. Enter your WEP key and if everything is OK you should then be connected.

Any problems PM me and I’ll try and talk you through

Can’t see how you would need dongles as well. Dongles are used for areas that are outside your modem’s ‘sphere of influence’.

Have you tried phoning your ISP to reseolve the issue?

Also I take you your wireless coonection on you laptops are switched on, not trying to be smart but have seen it happen!!

No expert but hope this helps.

Soft question but do you have the wireless turned on on your laptops? Normally something to press, possibly 2 keys on keyboard at same time.

usually you have to keep the FN button pressed and then press one of the f buttons to activate the wireless on a laptop..

Most laptops have wireless already turned on. Some Fujitsu have to be turned on manually every boot with certain keystroke combinations. Just Google your laptop for instructions.
Have you setup your router manually through your network cable first?
Or you could have faulty router
