alanwrexhamParticipantWent to fish at my local Weston Pools yesterday in the rover. Walking around with my mate I commented that I was going to pick the bottom pool as I do quite well on there.
As we completed our walk on the canal-the complex flyer (peg 5,on a bend) had carp feeding on the surface and quite a few fish blowing down the track. “You could not turn that down given the choice he remarked”.
At the draw 28 anglers lined up & I drew the number 1 ticket. Shall I go on the bottom pool or head for the flyer.
Easy choice- the flyer peg 5.
5 hours later, not 1 FISH sorry not 1 BITE not even a line.
I was gutted to say the least.
Mach/Jeff if you are reading this please dont disown me I will come good, honest. Well at least I cant get any worse. -

26/11/2007 at 7:10 pm #68649
alanwrexhamParticipantYes its going to get even better when he has the new middle pool ready & stocked.
Not downhearted realy because I know I have been fishing ok of late.
I knew I was going to stuggle as just before the all in the fizzing stopped/fish feeding on surface disapeared & a strong cold wind appeared.
Nice to see quite a few TF scribes visit/know about weston.
Hope to meet you there soon. -

alanwrexhamParticipantPatrick. If you read about my performance off the flyer, im the last one to ask-lol.
It does vary slightly from pool to pool but generally now its red maggot/pellet/corn with very little feed needed-(another mistake I made sun).
Best man to ask is Mike who will tell you the works or if you wish drop me a line just before you come, and I will get the info off him. -

TF_red_hydroIs Mike the owner ?
I will book in for a few tomorrow, I’ve had a look on the website and know a few of the anglers, so hopefully they will put us right

billy the squid s.t.aParticipantred. micro’s dampend and gently squeezed thumb nail size in deep and 4mm pel or corn over top. or over to island find about foot and half to two foot depth. two red mags on hook hold float bout foot out of water feed 6 to 10 reds via kinder then gently lower bait through falling feed. repeat every 30 seconds. very active place to fish some pegs need more than 16m but dont stop working bait ie lifting dropping and light lines and small hooks def get you more bites. not to many lumps to break you. most fish 6oz to 2 pound. hope it works for you…

fluffParticipantalan my mate you aint the only one too suffer on the canal at mikes i still shudder when i remember what happened to me on peg one and a more recent experience just before he did the work on the middle pool had rich lowery laughing solidly for several hours watching my inept preformance trying to keep pace with him.having a rest from there at the moment confidence shot to pieces lol
-
28/11/2007 at 8:13 pm #68662
alanwrexhamParticipantfluff-Just by chance rich lowry was next to me as well on sunday. That it sorted he’s the albatross.
Funny my confidence is ok- perhaps I am getting use to being crap. -

TF_LiquidizedI was down there last Tuesday (27th) 21 anglers fished
Top 3
59lb off the stock pond,59lb off the canal, 32lb off Wilfred OwenThe middle pool has been revamped (photos on the website) the first stocking goes in today, with another stocking in a couple of weeks
If you are not sure about your first visit and it being a rover don’t worry. Mike (the owner) is an excellent angler and host. Just ask him and he will put you on the best area available at your time to pick, he will also give you the latest info to get the best from your peg
Excellent fishery and very friendly regulars
I don’t get there as much as I would like, but enjoyed every visit I have had -
