Razor EdgeI havnt been on these forums for years and years and years.
But I’m now doing a foundation degree in fisheries managment, and thought it wouldnt do me anyharm to trawl round (probably the wrong word to use on a sea angling forum) the fourms on anglers views and so forth.
just a little about me,
as i mentioned above im doing a foundation degree in fisheries management (mainly dealing with river species but do study bass farming)
As well as that im an amature taxidermist (really just fish at the moment)My main angling is sea angling though i will be dryflying for genetically pure wild brownies next brownie season. 😀
as well as angling i also set non commercial longlines only 50 hook things a couple of times a year for the pot
ooo and i used to be known as heythatslife on here 😀
but i promise you iv matured and my political views have become drastically less extreme but my spelling hasnt improved.anyho i recognise a couple of old faces greenman, iowa to name a few.
just a quick question wheres the game fourm gone?

JackyboyWhat do you do with the undersized fish caught on your longline?
I stuff birds that’s no secret! 🙂

Razor Edgerealise em back
i use hooks which degrade fairly quickly,
i arrive at my longline long before the tide has uncovered it and waid in and realise undersized or unwanted fish(found live baiting and dead baiting pout to rate poorly to other baits for which i shall keep quiet on for now)
always bring a priest with me (though he really dosnt like the cold and isnt so keen to go out on sundays) – sorry bad joke but i do always bring a priest for fish i want to keep
and most importantly use disgorgers and whenever possible il hook the fish wilst holding it in the water (yes it can be done) wearing wet neoprene gloves (less scale dammage)
with non commercial longlineing you have to be cleaner then clean, cos the majority of anglers think your the scum of the earth.
longlineing is perfectly alright so long as you dont get gready and take more then you need,
(i only set a few lines a year and of these i only keep the fish i will eat in the next few days)
and you treat the fish with respect, dispatch them quickly with a priest
(how many seaanglers use priests???)
and return the ones u shant be eating quickly and in no worse for ware. -

JackyboyI don’t use priest and don’t have one. And my hand is up the red murret I caught on Sunday was kept for the table.
Also I have a 1.7 inch shark tooth round my neck!

JackyboySince you are doing a degree in fishries, how many pound of bass will a 6000m3 pond be able to cater for?

phishWelcome, but I’m not sure I’m happy about the “brownies” Gareth will be taking this post off because it sounds a bit iffy if your not careful.
If on the other hand you mean Brown trout or “Brownsâ€

Razor Edgealways used brownies as slang for brown trout but can see where ur coming from
and no thankyou gay dave
well jackyboy that would have to depend on the species of bass, and the conditions of the pond

JackyboyAny bass you have studied will do as I want to get an idea what if I can do aquaculture.
Open pond condition with a natural source of water with occasional rainwater during summer months. Water can be assumed to be stagnent since inflow is negligible.
I’m asking all this because in countries like China, Malaysia, Singapore ect they have commercial fish pond. In Mauritius, the gov is offering many incentives to promote aquaculture.
I know I can design and build a pond of 75m X 25m and this will give roughly 6000m3. I don’t have the money though!
