Love him or loathe him, this show certainly used to also attract a lot of the non-angling public as listeners as well as anglers because of KA’s inimitable style and personality.
.
Hate the bestowed phrase ‘national treasure ‘ – but this surely comes close in UK angling equivalent terms? As even if you hadn’t actually listened to it for a long while – or were ambivalent about it or Keith – it was perhaps. nevertheless reassuring to know it was always around.
Hopefully Keith will now finally be able to fish more weekend matches again – though Keith will continue to present Sky ‘Tightlines’
Have to say -thought his this years Fisho commentary and craic with Rob Hughes and the wonderful character and top angler that is Des Shipp was really entertaining and added greatly to the 2 day’s coverage.
Respect and enjoy your deserved well earned Talksport retirement, i’m sure we we all wish you the very very best.:)

TF_JohnHKeiths knowledge on all things fishing is second to none. He is the lone voice for angling in the 21st century mad world of 24/7 media coverage.
I often listen to him on radio on my way to matches and at times he does go on a bit, I guess its a skill you need for radio!!
Quite a few none anglers chip in so Keiths appeal is wider than angling itself.
Enjoy your retirement Keith and thanks for keeping our sport alive from a media context.
Did he ever write that book about the best excuse for loafing around the countryside?. -

TF_PaddyYes, Agreed.
It begs the question, is he being replaced? or will Fishermans Blues end with Keith not doing the show any more? -

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI don’t listen to it much but that’s due to the time its broadcast, I do have a lot of time for Keith having met him a couple of time on and after the WA matches.Keith is a mine of information and a better commercial match angler than I anticipated I know he’s very good on rivers but I think he’s just generally a very good angler,I wish him well in his retirement.

TF_Steve AmisonI’ve met Keith on numerous occasions over the years & he is a gentleman and great all round angler as well as a top matchman.
His knowledge of the tackle trade is first class as he was involved for a good number of years.
I hope he carries on with Tight Lines on Sky, at least now he’ll be able to fish afew more matches with not having to get up at stupid o’clock!

Anonymoustalk sport cut the show from 2 hours to 1 hour so they could start the breakfast show a hour earlier personally I cant understand why they did that, they said to keith he could start the show a hour earlier but that ment he had to get up at 3 in the morning,as you can imagine he declined.all so they can talk about football for a hour more, quite sad really.

TF_JohnHI thought they must have done something like this as I tuned in on Sunday at 7.00 only to find it was not there. Footy talk only was going on, heaven help us we dont get enough of this already.

TF_CutnutNigel Botherway is taking over the early spot apparantly…that early in the morning I won’t be tuning in and I’ll bet he doesn’t stay long either unless he can broadcast from his bivvie bed.
Fishermans Blues was an eclectic mix…and it always used to bore the pants off me when some old croney would drone on about football in a fishing programme much like this forum when the footie fans get started… 🙂

TF_wightanglercutnut – lol
and can’t see many average footie fans really wanting to talk football at 6am after a sat.night out either.

TF_SwimfeederThe end of an era, Nigel is good at what he does, but he is not a patch on Keith, I will miss his shows a great deal, very informative and intelligent, if your reading this Keith, thanks for some great radio and entertainment, good luck in all that you are now free to do! 🙂

TF_Croydon_DaveI heard Keith say live on air that it was HIS decision to cut down on his activities. And I think we have to accept that he is recognising that he isn’t getting any younger and having to get up at 04.20 or whatever impacts quite severly on one’s life.
Sad really as I used to love listening to the second half of the show (sometimes blasting the Madonalds drive through with the Waterboys!) whilst driving to my Sunday match but from his perspective, he has the choice to fish some matches now, whereas an 08.00 finish made it practically impossible.
But for a tragic turn of events, it might be that Kevin Green would have in time taken over with Nigel carrying on to fill in as required but sadly it it not to be.
Keith has been a splendid ambassador for the sport and this past 12 years have been all the richer for his efforts that attracted anglers and non-anglers alike. Enjoy your semi-retirement but in the meantime a big thank you!
