Turned my hp laptop on this morning and it got as far as the vista password page. It wont accept correct password?! Got a message ‘the user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded’
I then tried to reset password and i got a ‘no drive’ message.
Also said ‘this feature requires removable media such as floppy disk or usb flash drive’
Is the hard drive dead or wouldnt it have loaded this far?

          Google for similar results.

Your hard drive is not dead, don’t panic!

From what i’ve read, its something to do with your profile being in a backup state, sounds like Microsoft has struck again lol.

I hope you have another administrator account as it will be required to correct this problem, ie. logging on as someone else or a different user (e.g. administrator).

          Good luck

If you have a Vista CD you could try booting off that and trying a repair installation.

              Worth a try.

Or pressing F8 at boot up time and trying to log in as administrator with same password as your user login (or blank password). Then trying a “Restore session” to a few days ago before the problem started.

              Good luck (again!)

And when your done turn the damm auto updates off

you might be able to boot to last known good configuration

to do that you need to restart the pc and keep hitting f8 you should get a menu with that choice
