Nice to see that the EA can fine you £2500 for using illegal baits [freshwater] yet don’t list the baits.
But I guess it could be a single hemp seed on a 22 hook!

Looking back on cases, when was a trawler fined £2500 for illegal nets, perhaphs it should be £2500 for every undersize mesh of the net!

We Are so lucky here with such rocky horrible ground the trawlers stay well away, You can easily take out your keel on submerged Rocks especially in the tidal runs!!!
its kind of an automatic sanctuary

The baits banned from 8th October to 31st December are live or dead fish, worms, prawns, spinners or other artificial lures but does not include artificial flies.

As the article says… this is to protect the migratory fish on their travels to the spawning beds. This is a major concern on the Severn due to the contiuing decline in the Salmon catches, despite compulsory catch and release at certain times of the year. All the EA need to sort out now is the continued conifer afforestation in head waters, de-acidification of the feeder streams, bank-side destruction and removal of all obstacles to migrating fish…. Apart from that.. no problem!

How much for a licence to fish for salmon?

Nothing, just take a shovel, and when salmon are running bat them out of the air at a waterfall, easy no nets no rod and line.

Yep, nothing to say that illegal?
Don’t tell our so called EU friends!
i can see the problem and the restrictions to protect the Salmon, but why just ban some ‘baits’ and not just ban ‘wholesale’ but I do find it strange that you can get done £2500 for free lining a worm!

When I spent 3 month fishing in Canada, I bought a yearly licence for about 19 bucks. I could fish for salmon but I was there in full summer. No bait restriction but was allowed to fish one rod with a single hook! My friends always told me that roe was a very good bait, availaible at the bait dispensing machine.
