REPORT
Championship Match 16 (also for the Jubilee Shield) was fished on a very wet and windy day at Rycroft Fishery (Hemington). In spite of the weather there was once again an excellent attendance, and 28 anglers lined the banks of the Moat and Clover pools.
Dave Cotterill had the advantage of having the gusting wind blowing onto his back on Clover peg 23, and this enabled him the luxury of being able to fish with a long pole. Baiting with hard pellet, Dave caught steadily throughout the 5 hours, putting 51-04 of carp in the scales for a clear win.
On Moat peg 15, Andy Edwards had the wind blowing onto his left side, so to enable good bait presentation he fished short at around 5m. Although he had to wait for bites, when they came they were from big fish and his carp catch of 43-11 put him in second place.
Only one ounce split the next two anglers, with Les Smedley’s pole/pellet caught carp catch of 32-09 from Clover 12 taking third place, John Adamson’s catch of small carp, a chub and some “skimmers” taken on feeder and meat bait for 32-08 taking fourth place from Clover 9.
Brain Leafe filled fifth spot with a pole and pellet caught 30-11 from Clover 5, Dave Lewis taking sixth with 28-11 from Moat 10.
Although John Adamson retains the Championship Lead with 221 points, with three matches left he now drops points as only the top 15 results may count. Dave Cotterill with 206 points in second place may count two more scores before dropping points so now becomes clear favourite. Other leaders are Brain Leafe on 194, Rob Pembridge 191, Steve Talbot 190.
The next match (for the Shipstone’s Cup) is on Sunday 15 November on the Kingfisher Pool at Beechwood. As it will be a joint match with Soldiers & Sailors (Sawley) Angling Club another bumper attendance is expected.
