        REPORT
Match 17 (also for the Shipstone Cup) was fished at Beechwood Park Fishery on the Kingfisher Lake on a very windy and wet day, making bait presentation difficult. Fished as a joint match with Soldiers & Sailors (Sawley) Angling Club once again there was an excellent attendance with most of the pegs on the lake in use.
In spite of the weather, there were excellent catches taken and once again the match produced a very close final result – completely unpredictable until after the final weigh-in had taken place.
In general the left hand side of the lake (the early numbers) completely out-fished the other bank, the one notable exception being peg 38, Dave Lewis, who totalled 55-06 for a clear win. Fishing pole and maggot, Dave started fishing 2/3 across to the island and caught a few small carp. A change to fishing the shallow water close to the island on long pole transformed his match as a string of carp to around 6-00 in weight resulted, and in spite of losing several fish he had enough for victory.
All the other top weights can from the other side of the lake. Rob Pembridge also caught on maggot, half his fish falling to feeder and the remainder on pole fished short at 5m. His 51-08 from peg 11 put him into second place in the match, and moved him onto second place in the Championships.
