TF_gis9Reading the match fishing article with Jamie Hughes who is a talented and commited angler i feel that there should be a limit on pole length. The majority of pole packages are 16 metres , should we not adhere to these lengths and therefore level the playing field. How many anglers are capable of using a pole of,as in Jamies case,22.5 metres or able to afford one? Many years ago when i fished the canal circuit poles where unable to reach the far bank so you learnt to fish a waggler tight to the far bank . I believe this should be the way on all commercials i think they do it at Whiteacre festivals and this should be the norm. Thank you looking forward to your views

TF_GavinI have to admit I’ve never been in favour of limits, but after reading that I did begin to rethink that.
I do think fishery owners have a part to play though- you’d not be able to fish running line to the far bank on that peg because of the reeds in the middle. That and some seem to like putting islands at 17-18m, then make the cover so it’s an arse to cast to!

TF_MarkTI personally would like to see a 16m pole limit but fair play to the lads that fish at such lengths, it’s definitely not easy and theres some skill in it. I don’t think he’s exculsively sponsored by maver i think he just fish’s for maver midlands!!

TF_craigmI’m in favour of a 14.5/16m pole limit on venues, I fish Lindholme(16m) and The Oaks(14.5m) which have pole limits on certain lakes which i think makes for fairer matches. I’ve had an Airity and G10/G995 and had 17.5m extensions for them and they were a nightmare to fish with, there is definately a skill to it. A limit means that people who don’t have flagship poles can also compete as most poles can be fished at 14.5m and 16m with a bit of practice.

TF_One fishI don’t like any bans, how about banning large anglers. They have an advantage holding a long pole?
If you think something is unfair at a venue then go elsewhere,no matter what bans/restrictions are brought in the better angler wins. -

The better angler will when when its a level playing field, but when you are talking about using 22.5m of top level pole you are talking about something that your average match angler cannot possibly afford. In effect anyone using that much pole is buying their fish and how is “Mr Average’ going to compete when he can only afford 16m???

TF_gis9This is not about a ban, this is about sensible limits, as i said at the start of the topic he is a class act and i respect that. There is obviously pole limits at a lot of commercials why not extend it to all . the top anglers will still be at the top.I believe Alan Scotthorne still excelled at a recent Whiteacres festival even though there was a pole limit, and the England team are world beaters with a pole length limit

I don’t see how any angler is buying his fish??!! You can’t just buy extensions and then expect to start winning matches. They would be at the top no matter what, limits or no limits.

TF_jonahmy point is that if you are using 22.5m to reach a feature and the guys on the next pegs have only got 16 – that gives you a massive advantage that is nothing to do with angling ability and everything to do with the depth of your pockets…

TF_caster robParticipantI’m against bans, of anything.
If I had to make an exception I’d go for a pole length limit of 13 FEET!

TF_One fishA level playing field does not mean the fish are always against the features, as i said, if you think it is unfair go elsewhere.

TF_DocIf you want your National team to compete Internationally, set any limits in conjunction with the World Championship rules …
This would also let juniors compete on a fairly level playing field with middle aged men with more money … and less talent …

TF_HillbillyWhat about venues where some far bank swims can be reached with 14.5 or 16 metres but others need 18 to reach. The guys on the narrower swims would then have a big advantage.~think

TF_Nigel.There are limits.
13m for CIPS matches, (11m for ladies and juniors) and 16m for NFA matches, which all matches should be fished too.
Which inc fish o mania, Nationals, and Uk Champs etc)The only changes, are some matches, either run by the fishery or a club, add or subtract there own rules.
