Fish week 1,152 (season 8315) Returns 236 (1,377) Rod average 4.88 (6.03)Rutland Water continues to provide some exciting sport with good numbers of over wintered Browns and Rainbows of specimen size. Plenty of Browns fell to individual anglers with the biggest Brown also taking best fish of the week at 8lb 8oz for Danny Peet. Rick Varley from Yorkshire had a tremendous day boat fishing up the North Arm fishing alongside Danny Peet. The pair caught and returned six Rainbows between 3 and 5lb. Fishing sinking lines and lures Rick commented that the fish had been feeding on last season’s roach and perch fry.
The best Rainbow was taken by Roger Marshall of North Luffenham with a black tadpole on a floating line. Roger fished off the bank to take a fine 7lb 6oz specimen.
Other notable fish during the week included a fish estimated between 7 and 8lb returned by Grafham Warden Mark Haycock who was guiding at Rutland on Saturday. Peterborough’s Keith Jones also caught and returned Browns of similar size, but kept the one permitted fish which weighed 6lb 12oz which fell to a Humungus fished on a Di 8 line.
Regular boat partners and season ticket holders Phil Welborne and Paul Kircup had a great day on Saturday with the pair yet again netting a number of Browns. Phil weighed in a 4lb 7oz specimen and Paul chipped in with a 4lb 6oz fish, the pair also returned bigger fish in the process.
Plenty of fish have been taken in many areas of the reservoir. Fish are coming from the main basin, bottom of both arms of the reservoir, and the South Arm which is finally waking up from a slow start. Fly hatches have been good again but anglers have said that fish have not been feeding hard on them. There have been good hatches of olives, the best for a number of seasons, with fish moving to them in some parts of the reservoir. Along with the buzzer and olive hatches, there are now numbers of Hawthorn flies about, so hopefully we will see more fish on the surface in the next few days or so. Prospects are very good with plenty of fish coming out along with the numbers of quality overwintered fish being caught.

Pitsford Water has been in top form this week for both bank and boat anglers. Fantastic buzzer hatches continue and the fish have certainly turned on to feeding on black or green buzzers.Regular weekend visitor Richard Williams had the biggest fish for the week -a lovely Rainbow of 6lb. Richard was boat fishing with a team of nymphs and had many other fish during his morning session. Season ticket holder Terry Vials also reported taking a Rainbow of 5lb 8oz.
A further stocking of 1500 fish this week has taken the total stocked this season to 12,000. The most successful methods are to fish floating or midge tip lines with buzzers/nymphs fished either static under an indicator, or straight lined. Diawl Bachs and crunchers are also working.
