TF_makerEverything works on lake 2, i would go down the edge with paste or meat, have a pole out at 13m shallow and spray pellet, method tight to the islands with green swim stim pellets, and i would bank on pellet wag and try the depths, also a big wag with 1 or 2 pellets on the deck, its been working better than the bomb as they take it on the drop, spray 8mm green swim stim pellets.

TF_CraftytaftyIf you don’t draw certain pegs, Maryku( or whatever it is), angel dust or a prayer mat won’t help you.
If every pegs in don’t bank on the edge.
You do want B15, 16 17 maybe 18 to 25 for a few fish. ( if there’s no one on A20, B25 could chuck there) I’d be surprised if the bowl was any good.can’t see the pole shallow being any good, they won’t come that close if you’re all fishing the method or wag.
I’d only set up method and wag in this weather, maybe an edge rig, but only to try and snare an odd mug fish -

TF_carpcruncherParticipantfeed a corn and hemp line at the bottom of the shelf , about 6 meters , some big lumps to be had in the last hour if they move in on it. also if you have romm down your margin left or right , fish it long , and keep bait going in. The norm up there is pellet wag and method . I agree with crafty on the pole shallow , I would be suprised if it was won on that.

very windy kev but i’m really surprised how the fishery has come on since the dreaded fish-o-mania at the time the fishery hadn’t got the pegs for such a big match and the owner really got up set about the comments
i think now its settled down its a great fishery
last sunday like i say the wind was really bad and you couldn’t fish over unless you used a rod or pole feeder but the weights, well i didn’t think they were bad 41lb,39lb,37lb,35lb,26lb 4x19lb2x15lb and everyone had near doubles i think it might be different tomorrow when we 40 anglers on the lake for the C.I.U. league ~sick ~sick
the other good thing kev is the carp range is good from a pound to 8 or 9lb and plenty of skimmers as well. i will fish for them if i draw in the middle of the lakekev i also fished that fishpool at seagrave on thursday the mal are running some evening matches there 6 till 9pm thats close to you isn’t it that surprised me as well 41lb won it 30lb,29lb,27lb 26lb its not all about catching hundreds of pounds is it

TF_Patrick MacInnesWhat’s the crack with opens these days? Spoke to Alan and he said there’s a mid-week open but it’s mainly club bookings these days. Can totally understand why he’d prefer clubbies – they pay up front and don’t moan – but weekend opens used to be a bit of a highlight of Makins… any planned for the summer or will it all be pairs/team series?
-
05/06/2010 at 1:12 pm #106628
TF_kev34Joff i have to juggle the evening matches round my shifts and the wifes not too happy with all my fishing trips at the minute. So if i went fishpools as well my balls would be strung up lol…..
Lad at work steve oaks was after some info for the CIU this sunday so i hope ive put him right ~think ~think ~think
Thats the only problem with lake 7 it gets the wind and makes it hard work at 16m,if you get room you can catch at the bottom of the near shelf 10m + lft or right…
Did i tell you i won a large box of marukyu pellet/groundbait and additives,at least i won`t have to buy loads from Match Catch ~sick ~sick ~sick

AnonymousAye up Pat,
The bigger matches held at the weekend at Makins are predominently league matches which are on Sundays, usually a series of 6 matches, these are run by Mansfield Angling or Gedling.
Anyone can fish the Mansfield matches but you have to be quick to get in.The Gedling matches (pairs) are more selective.
There are occasionally some open matches in between the leagues but they dont get advertised as they usually get filled up by the regulars from the leagues. There doesn’t seem to be much demand for Saturday opens at Makins, although i’m sure if someone took the bull by the horns and proposed something quite special then i’m sure the anglers would come.
I’ve been toying with the idea of trying something out for a while now but just haven’t really got round to transferring my thoughts onto paper, one of these days maybe..

If most pegs are in all any pole line will give you is an odd mug fish.
it works on the midweekers cos they don’t get many there. Foxy won one last week on the pole on B15 I think it was but there was 8 there.
personally if I was on your match i’d fish the method and have the wag set up and just keep my eyes open to see if anyone was catching on it.

TF_cheffieVRSParticipantI fished a charity match at makins today, i was on lake 2, it didn’t fish that well to be honest as the carp were spawning again!!!!
I asked the event organisers to tell people to take there bait home with them and NOT to chuck it in, as i knew you guys were there tomorrow!! -
05/06/2010 at 9:18 pm #106652
TF_Craftytaftyalthough it’s not the match i’m on, nice gesture. it’ll help the guys on there tomorrow.
i was at blythe today and my peg was black with carp spawning. think tmrw might be hard.
