Just acquired a MAP TKS 525 for an amazing price, just sat here stroking it (not be in action till May I suspect). Anyone any idea if they do a short No 4 and a dolly butt (Phex type). The MAP website is hopelessly out of date and does not even feature the new range.
I think the 525 is from the same mandrel as the TkS40.

I have a TKS 40 and have enquired about a dolly butt. It will be available from about March.

And yes it appears that the 525 is teh TKS 40 in disguise.

does that mean TKS 525 sections are compatible with the TKS 40?

The TKS525 will interchange with the TKS40.

Also Sharp Hook is correct in saying that there will be a dolly butt for the 525 available soon, which will also fit the TKS40.

If my memory serves me correctly I’m sure your number 5 section was close to if not older than 12 months old? I personally inspected the section in question, and it did stuffer from some kind of impact at some point causing the section to break.

I’m sure you would agree that using your pole for 12 months that a section would not break for no reason at all?

                                  Tubestation,

All sections undergo a thorough inspection and testing and I dont think you will find many manufacturers that would replace a section after that period of time.

I m not saying that sections shouldnt last that long but I am still using my Definition after three years without any problems. I tend to use it for bagging too. I think your comments are a bit bit harsh.

the Map lads seem to take alot of stick on this site

i would like to say that i only use Map products. thru choice – not sponsorship [ there products are high quality and at a resonable price that suit the type of fishing and venues i go to ] and i aint had a single problem – not even with my meat cutter.

after reading some of the abuse these lads suffer i thought i would add my 2 pennys worth and stick up for the whole Map brand.

That’s the nature of the internet and forums. I will always try and help people out (even though that’s the job of our customer service department) and try to sort out any issues that may arise. What I disagree with is people posting comments on forums and not explaining the full story

With regards to buying products direct, we do not sell direct and only supply products to retail outlets throughout the UK.

I have had the following poles from MAP:

MAP Concept Match 13m (13 yrs ago)
                                          MAP Ultra Match

                                          I now own:

                                          MAP Parabolix (Old type)
                                          MAP Matchtek MXT

I personally love the poles and spares selection you get, also Mapmike has been very helpful when I have asked questions. A big thumbs up from me~clap ~clap ~clap

I know I did nothing to damage the pole. And in truth tho it was 11 months old it had’nt been used that much. The pole broke by just lifting into a bite. And I think I should of recieved a replacement section. Its disgusting that tackle manufacting companies dont have to respect a 12 month guarantee. And can just say its my fault it broke very easy to do say that. i didnt know it was you who inspected the pole map mike but i do know you were wrong to blame me . When I got the section back, I then phoned leeda customer services, who said they would look into it and ring me back and never did. And everytime I rang again could only get we are busy and leave a message. and we will get back to you and again never did … so I feel badly let down by Map/ leeda

I cannot comment on our customer service not calling you back. Did you get a name of someone you spoke to?

I do inspect sections when I’m in the office and I can assure you that your section did have impact damage. You may not have even known that you had damaged the section, and it could have been done in many ways, but the breakage was caused by your section taking a ‘knock’ at some point.

I’ve done it myself when fishing. I’ve had a section hit the top of the roller when shipping back, and on the next outing that section broke. I’ve also had top kits get blown off the roost and shortly after they broke. These are the same kits that I had fished with every week for the last year or so. At the end of the day, no matter how strong the pole is, it’s still a hollow tube which can be damaged with ease. We are more than fair when it comes to replacing sections, and if it’s due to a manufacturing fault, we will always replace the section. At times I have even sorted out sections from sample poles (and my own pole) for people to get them back on the bank when we have had no stock, so we do everything we can.

With regards to guarantees, I think us anglers are quite lucky. I can remember looking at tennis rackets just before Christmas and was amused that they all had a disclaimer on them stating that ‘this product is not guaranteed due to the nature of the sport’ which is food for thought.

Where do you draw the line to the length of a guarantee given with a pole? We give a 12 month guarantee on all poles, which most manufactures tend to give. If there is a fault within a pole, then it will appear within the first 12 months of use. Most if not all faults show up within the first couple of weeks of fishing with a pole. Most (I would say 95%) are ‘hair line’ factures within the pole wall, which produce a clean break, and this usually happens with just one section on the pole.

The 525 is lighter, stronger and better balanced than the 40. With regards to rigidity I would say there is nothing in it between the two models. We tried for months getting the action more rigid, but it had a massive effect on both the weight and the balance of the pole.

This is my first MAP pole having made the move from Diawa (conny 510) which is a bit of a monster at 14.5m. I got 10 years out of that pole but it is now worn out so went for a change. It probably won’t see daylight till spring as I will be taking my time setting it up etc.

On contacting leeda and explaining how the breakages had occured and sending photo’s of the broken sections, all 3 sections where replaced FOC. All I can say is that my pole is due for replacing and it will most probably be a with a new Map.

But in all fairness to Map they changed both these sections without any question, so this goes to prooves they have a good after sales service.

He as now had the latest section for about 3 months and it seens to be ok.

Also Sharp Hook is correct in saying that there will be a dolly butt for the 525 available soon, which will also fit the TKS40.

I have a Parabolix STI and would also like to know if a Dolly butt is available or planned for this. Ideally I would like this to fit 13m & 14.5/ 16m sections and be long enough to take the pole back up to 16m with the No 1 section removed to comply with the W/A match rules. I have tried various other dolly butts but without success. Help me please Mike!!!!!
