Margin question

What dictates people to use groundbait over say potting in say corn/meat? Is it better? Or is it just because of bait limits?

Good question, I’ve been using it quite a bit lately and had some success with it what confuses me is how far in advance of going in the margins would you start putting g/bait in and then when to top up once you start catching I realise there’s no definite answer but any guidelines would be appreciated.

I won’t use ground bait in the edge if its much more than 2.5 ft preferring to dump pot bigger pellet or corn. It’s a personal thing but had too many foul hooking experiences!

Irrespective of depth I tend to loose feed smaller amounts of corn/pellet from the off and try the margins every 30mins in case they arrive early but start dump potting in groundbait or particles depending on the depth from around half way through a match. Top ups will then be after every fish or two depending on their size but their is no definite rule.

Whilst this works on most of the waters I fish it is venue dependant as some can take it from the off others its last hour, some you can top up others you drip feed once thy are there.
