Does anybody here own this pole? I am looking at one this weekend to see how it compares to the Airity. I hear it is quite a bit stronger than the Elite 77 and more suited to match sized carp at venues like Woodlands. Is it worth spednding the extra on compared to the 481 which I know is a strong pole.
        Cheers

ive just spent a good hour comparing the Elite 77 and the Maver 501. There was not a noticable difference in stiffness at 13 and 14.5 mtrs as you would expect from top end poles and even at 16mtrs it was marginal the 501 being slightly heavlier but both well balanced! at 16mtrs both poles were stiff and responsive! i tried both poles at 17.5 mtrs and the Ellite was def stiffer and lighter! although the 501 was easily fishable the Elite was better at 17.5. after squeezing the sections it was clear that the 501 is def stronger. So now comes the hard choice which do i buy!!! buying anything is down to personal choice and fishing style. if you regularly need to fish 17.5 plus then i would say the Elite 77 if you fish 16 mtrs and regular fish commercials with larger carp then i would go for the strength of the 501. Hope this has helped im going for a 501 it is an awsome bit of kit and will suit the venues and the type of fishing i do!

Thanks Matt I will be doing the same this weekend. I have seen the Elite 77 but had almost ruled it out due to concerns over strength. I dont fish for large fish constantly but some venues do hold doubles and large weights are on the cards. I have spoke to a Maver rep and they said the 501 is definately the one to go for as it is designed for UK commercials and carp but with the finesse for silvers on canals and natural stillwaters. I will be putting it up against an Airity, TP X, GIS 12 and G10 this weekend at Bobco.

Instead of the GIS 12 take a look at ‘The One’
a couple of my mates have upgraded to it and reckon it’s stiffer and stronger.

I have had them all up today in Bobco deciding which one to buy. I had the Tourney pro X, Sensas 774, G10, Elite 77, 501, GIS 12, GIS one and several lower spec poles up against each other for hours compairing them at different lengths.
In the end I went for the Elite 77, to me in my opinion it was very ligth, well balanced and still had good stiffness and wall strength. Yes the G10 is stiffer and has higher wall strength but is a lot heavier The Maver 501 is very similar to the Elite 77 and perhaps stronger and definately has greater wall stength but heavier and did not feel as stiff or responsive. the Sensas was a nice tool as was the Daiwa but I felt the other poles where better. I was sorely tempted by the GIS one and think it is a fantastic pole but the package is a lot more expensive.
Please remember this is only my opinions. I am very happy with my purchase though and the price on it was simply superb!

glad to hear your happy with your choice mate and exactly like i said its a personal choice the elite 77 is an awsome bit of kit some of the lads in my team have one. you will be well impressed with the finish when shipping out! plus the sections dont come apart when shipping! ive had the 501 for the extra strength i just felt the fraction in weight is well worth the extra strength you get! plus im a bit of an animal as kieron will tell ya! def have a look at the new maver power disk top kits they are different to the prototypes i saw, looks like they have really thought it through! first of all the strengthened disk is exactly where it should be about a foot or so up the kit where your hand is. and second the strengthend bit is a diamond shape which will dissapate the stress as appossed to a full wrap

I am not a big lad and not really heavy handed. I dont fish out and out munter venues and if I do I will use another pole. I often fish 16m though and I do like my silvers fishing so thats why I went for the Elite 77 in the end. Both Mavers were very, very good and I don’t know why people doubt the strength so much as the walls are definately not soft, infact the Daiwas felt perhaps a touch softer to me? All in all it horses for courses but if you want an allrounder I just thought the Elite 77 and GIS one were the ones which really stood out to me.

Iain I had the N57 and had some very big weights on it, however as far as I am aware it was no where near as strong as the Elite 77 as all of the sections had considerable give in them.

I used it at Viaduct and Stafford Moor for big fish and the only reason I got rid of it was due to sponsorship and also because I thought it was an accident waiting to happen.

When I look for a new pole in a couple of years I’ll look at the 501 or better still wait until it is discontinued and then buy at a substancial discount.
